Traffic Director
Intelligently Steer Traffic and Manage Load
Scalable performance on demand, to efficiently
and cost-effectively add mobile packet core,
control plane and data center capacity to meet
changing traffic demands across applications
and subscribers.
The ByteMobile® T1000 Series Traffic Director
intelligently steers traffic and manages load for
subscriber services and network applications.
Built with the same software as NetScaler®, the
T1000 provides optimized licensing and hardware
for mobile core deployments. The intelligent
T1000 Series enables operators to efficiently and
cost-effectively manage the explosive growth in
data traffic while delivering a high-quality
experience to their subscribers.
Integrated with the ByteMobile Adaptive Traffic
Management Solution, the T1000 Series provides
faster throughput, better serviceability and
reduced operational complexity for application
deployment in the mobile packet core. With the
T1000 Series, ByteMobile offers a single-vendor
solution for network design, implementation and
problem resolution to support Adaptive Traffic
Management deployments.
The T1000 Series provides operators with
extensive capabilities for processing subscriber
data traffic across Layers 4 through 7 of the
network. It enforces multiple policies that
enable operators to switch traffic flows among
different applications for maximum applicationdelivery efficiency.
To help operators manage rapid traffic growth,
Citrix® TriScale® pay-as-you-grow licensing
enables the T1000 Series to scale capacity on
citrix.com
demand from 2 Gbps to 8 Gbps in 2-Gbps
increments, from 10 Gbps to 50 Gbps in 10-Gbps
increments and from 40 Gbps to 120 Gbps in
20-Gbps increments. Mobile network planners
can immediately add capacity to meet changing
traffic requirements within the mobile packet
core − without having to provision new hardware
modules. Additionally, through Citrix TriScale
clustering, the T1000 Series can be clustered into
one logical unit to provide over 3 Tbps of
capacity. This scalable performance on demand
and clustering capability provide the flexibility
necessary to handle unpredictable traffic trends
– efficiently and cost-effectively – while
maintaining customer satisfaction.
Product Capabilities
High Availability
• Load-sensitive traffic distribution —The
T1000 Series includes an intelligent healthcheck mechanism that accurately determines
when servers for the ByteMobile Adaptive
Traffic Management Solution are approaching
specified load thresholds. This innovative
mechanism avoids the latency inherent in
existing health check algorithms that predict
server load or CPU utilization. As a result, the
T1000 Series ensures that subscriber traffic is
directed to the correct application server
module, preventing packet loss and
maximizing availability of applications.
• Carrier-grade redundancy—The T1000 Series
can be configured for redundancy with state
synchronization between two units to ensure
that applications are always available. The
platform comes in both NEBS and non-NEBS
versions, with redundant fans and AC/DC
power supplies.

High Performance
• High scalability for mobile packet core
deployment—The T1000 Series supports the
scaling of bi-directional subscriber traffic in
the same hardware platform. Systems scale
from 2 Gbps up to 8 Gbps in increments of 2
Gbps (T1010 model), 10 Gbps up to 50 Gbps
in increments of 10 Gbps (T1100 model) and
40 Gbps up to 120 Gbps in increments of 20
Gbps (T1200 model). This enables operators
to meet the most demanding core network
capacity requirements and reduce the application delivery footprint required to scale the
ByteMobile Adaptive Traffic Management
Solution, network applications and subscriber
services. Capacity can be added incrementally
through software license keys and by clustering systems together to reach capacity
requirements to over 3 Tbps. This scalable
performance lowers capital and operating
costs over the deployment lifetime of
theT1000 Series, while ensuring the capacity
availability to meet subscriber demand.
Operational Efficiency
• Coordinated configuration management—
The T1000 Series simplifies configuration of
the ByteMobile Adaptive Traffic Management
Solution and related platforms. It identifies
available servers, eliminating the need for
citrix.com
manual entry. The T1000 Series also adjusts its
configuration when blades are inserted or
removed. This intelligent automation of
administrative functions significantly improves
management efficiency.
Deployment Flexibility
• Layer 4 load balancing through Layer 7
content switching—The T1000 Series enables
operators to switch subscriber sessions
among applications running inline on the
ByteMobile Adaptive Traffic Management
Solution and applications running on other
platforms for value-add services and security.
• IPv4/v6 networking—The T1000 Series allows
integration of ByteMobile Adpative Traffic
Management Solution with IPv6
• networks. It supports an IPv4/v6 dual stack
and offers IPv6 network address translation
(NAT) at scale.
• Standards-based networking—The ByteMobile
T1000 Series Traffic Director supports industrystandard routing protocols such as OSPF and
BGP, as well as Layer 2 VLAN tagging, for ready
integration with existing mobile packet core or
data center environments.
