Ewing Alternative Programs ‘Giving Garden’ SPONSORS Know Blair G. Ewing (Blair G. Ewing) is one of the three Alternative Education Programs offered by Montgomery County Public Schools for at-risk middle and high school students. These are students who are unsuccessful in their home schools for a variety of reasons. We provide positive and effective educational supports and services that address the academic, social, emotional and physical health of adolescents. Project Description The students at Blair Ewing Alternative Education Programs plan to a ‘Giving Garden’ on our school Campus. Implementation of the ‘Giving Garden’ reinforces the Next Generation Science Standards and Common Core State Standards, being taught across the curriculum (e.g. Biology, Nutrition, Applied Science, English, Technology, and Mathematics), through active hands-on experiences. Students are learning focus, relaxation, patience, problem solving, teamwork and social skills. They are gaining selfconfidence and a sense of "success" as they see the results of their hard work. Garden-based teaching addresses different learning styles and multiple intelligences; our struggling readers can blossom in the garden! Students will improve their dietary habits and overall healthy by spending time in the ‘Giving Garden’. Students at work Stakeholders
