This process is referred to as SIPPI, which stands for Student Instructional Program Planning and Implementation. During the weeks of December 2–15, all Grade 2 students in Montgomery County Public Schools will be assessed using the InView™ which is an assessment of cognitive abilities that measures the skills and abilities most related to academic success. The InView™ is comprised of five subtests that assess the following cognitive areas. Each subtest takes approximately 25 minutes to complete. Samples are provided below. Sequences Sample Students who show strength in sequencing comprehend a rule or principle implicit in a pattern or sequence of figures, letters, or numbers. Analogies Sample Students who show strength in analogical reasoning are able to recognize the nature of the relationship between two items and select an answer that will produce a parallel relationship. Quantitative Reasoning Sample The quantitative reasoning subtest also has items with missing addends, geometric figures representing quantities (such as, one square = three triangles), and puzzle solving with simples addition and subtraction. Students who show strength in quantitative reasoning often have the ability to: ● Identify arithmetic patterns ● Model complex relationships ● Infer relationships among data ● Apply deductive math reasoning ● Draw logical conclusions Verbal Reasoning—Words Sample Verbal Reasoning—Context Sample The Verbal Reasoning–Words subtest also includes items in other formats that require students to identify relationships among words. Students who show strength in verbal reasoning show potential in logic, inferencing and complex reasoning. ………………………… Over the next few months we will gather information about each student from a variety of sources: ● September 2015May 2016 Student performance in reading and mathematics ● December 2015 – InView™ Administration occurs in schools ● March 2016 Parent Input Form is mailed home ● March 2016 Teacher Survey is completed ● June 2016 Parent Report with GT designation sent home from school Sherwood Elementary’s students will take the InView test on: ● Monday, December 7th ● Tuesday, December 8th ● Thursday December 10th Your child will need to participate all three days.
