Extended School Year
Maryland State Superintendent of Schools Lillian Lowery has approved a plan that
will allow MCPS to go two days below the 180 days of instruction required by state
law. Under the plan approved on Monday, March 30, MCPS will extend the school
year by one day to make up some of the instructional time lost due to inclement
weather. The last day of school this year will now be Monday, June 15, which will be
an early release day. For more information, visit School Contingency Calendar at

Redskin Read Challenge: Congr atulations to our students for their par ticipation
in the reading challenge sponsored by Redskins organization. During the months of February and March students were challenged to read at least 1,000 minutes. The students recorded their minutes in a reading log
and had a parent or teacher nominate them. There were 50 participating schools from Washington, D.C.,
Maryland and Virginia. Cresthaven was number 5 among the top 10 participating schools. Congratulations
also to our partner school Roscoe Nix who placed number 1. We are looking forward to the challenge next
year.

Happy Spring Break! I hope that you enjoy a restful and joyous spring break. Our students and staff have been working
very hard during the 3rd quarter and deserve the time off to
refresh and prepare for the final marking period. When we
return there will be many activities to keep us busy. We start
with the scholastic book fair and reading night, come out and
join us. Spring clubs will also begin. We will also have our
annual Career Day event and talent show. Students are excited about all of the upcoming end of year events and activities.
Don’t miss out please check your child’s book bag for information on all of the events.
Sincerely,
Ms. Gorden
