Dear Seven Locks Elementary School Parents/Guardians,
It was great seeing so many Seven Locks Elementary School families at the End of Year Picnic. I
am still drying off as I type this newsletter! I had a wonderful time and it was nice to see that so many
of our students have such good pitching mechanics and strong arms. I would like to thank Ms.
Auguste, Ms. Creticos, Ms. Harman, and Ms. Riggsbee for spending some time in the dunk tank as
well.
I was thrilled to find out that Dr. Jamie Virga was named the next principal of Seven Locks
Elementary School. He is one of the finest school-based administrators that I know. I consider him
both a friend and a mentor. I know that you will love him. Please come to the “Meet and Greet” in
the All Purpose Room on Wednesday evening at 6:00 p.m. It will be the community’s first
opportunity to get to know this wonderfully talented and skilled gentleman.
We have two more weeks of school this year and still have many exciting learning experiences
planned. My teachers and I are committed to providing high quality, engaging instruction until the
end of the year, so please make sure that your children come to school each day ready to learn.
Contact the office if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you and have a wonderful week.
Sincerely,
Carl Bencal
Principal
Elke Stumpf’s Space Odyssey
I would like to congratulate Elke Stumpf for winning the Student Spaceflight Experiment Program
Mission Patch contest for Montgomery County. Elke’s winning design has been mailed to staff at
the National Center for Earth and Space Science Education Center who are coordinating the MCPS
experiment and mission patch payloads for spaceflight. Elke’s patch will be flown in space during
Mission 8 and upon return to Earth, will be sent back to the school. This is an amazing opportunity
and Elke is to be commended for her design.
