HALLOWEEN - What a great day today! Thank you so much to all the room parents for your planning and support
for the amazing parties! The students (and staff) all enjoyed the excitement, games, and food! It was wonderful to see
our school community enjoying this fun activity together. Thank you for helping make this such a successful event.
Please make sure to use caution with your children when trick or treating tomorrow evening. Make sure to wear
reflective tape and/or carry a flashlight. Please check your children’s candy prior to eating anything. We want this
Halloween to be a fun and safe event!
PARENT / TEACHER CONFERENCES - It is our hope that 100% of you will participate in upcoming
conferences. Sometimes as parents prepare for the parent-teacher conferences, they do not know what to expect or
what questions to ask. In order to be an active participant in this partnership, it is important to do some preplanning. I
have attached a handout, Tips for Parents for Effective Parent-Teacher Conferences, which I hope will be helpful as
you begin to think about your conference. We are looking forward to talking with you at conference time. If you
have any questions, or need additional help, please feel free to give me a call.
EVENING PRESENTATION – PARENT’S GUIDE TO USING MANIPULATIVES IN MATH – Thank you to
the many parents who came to our Math Night. We had a wonderful turnout. We appreciate the interest and support
you have for learning how to help your children.
VETERAN’S DAY CELEBRATION - On Wednesday, November 11th, we will have our annual Veteran’s Day
Celebration. The entire school will gather around the flag pole (weather permitting) at 9:40am. We will have our boy
and girl scouts and patrols participate. We will also sing patriotic songs and have patriotic readings. It is a time for us
to honor the many service men and women who have served our country. If you are either active in the military or a
veteran, please try to join us and wear your uniform. Also, if you know anyone in the community or have other family
members who are currently in the military or are veterans, please extend an invitation to them to join us. Everyone is
welcome to attend!
BOOK FAIR - The whole school is excited about our upcoming PTA sponsored MONSTER Book Fair! Reading is
so much fun it will give you GOOSEBUMPS! You will find the latest and finest titles for the whole family.
Students will visit the fair with their classes on Monday and Tuesday, November 9th and 10th to make wish lists and
take them home. Mark your calendar for the GRAND Event (Grandparents, Relatives, Aunts/Uncles neighbors and
caregivers) on Wednesday November 11th from 1:30-3:30pm and Family Fun Night on Thursday, November 12th
from 6:00-8:00pm. You can also visit our online Scholastic Book Fair at www.scholastic.com/fair from
November 1st - 21st. and the books will be delivered for free directly to your child's classroom in early December.
(Look for the link of the PTA website.) You can also buy books to contribute to your child's classroom library. We
will also be collecting loose change at the register for the All For Books program to provide book scholarships to
needy students. Students may bring cash or checks (made out to Travilah PTA) to buy books at the fair with teacher
permission. Parents may shop at the fair whenever it is open (cash, checks, credits, no- gift cards please). See you at
the MONSTER Book Fair!
PRESCHOOL EDUCATION PROGRAM – PEP AT TRAVILAH - Travilah PEP has limited openings for
preschool students. One opening is for a three year old on Wednesday and Friday morning from 9:25-11:55am. We
also have one opening for a four year old in the afternoon on Wednesday and Friday 1:20-3:50pm. We have a full
curriculum program using Big Day for PreK which is a comprehensive curriculum emphasizing early learning skills.

PTA FUNDRAISER - Travilah Elementary School is inviting you to participate in a unique fundraiser to “Pave the
Way” for our students. Leave a lasting legacy by purchasing a paver to be permanently displayed and remembered
forever. Each paver that you sponsor may honor you, your student, a teacher or staff member, former student, a family
member, friend, local business or anyone! The pavers will be etched with your custom inscription and placed within
the landscaping around the circle, in front of our school.
All of the proceeds from this fundraiser will go to our PTA.
Please submit orders before Friday, April 15, 2016 for spring 2016 installation.
For more information please visit the PTA website or contact:
Erinn Foster at 301-370-4502 or mail to: [email protected]
WINTER CLOTHES DRIVE – We will be collecting new or gently used winter coats, sweaters, hats, gloves and
scarves to be delivered to Summit Hall Elementary school for use by families in need. Please drop off donations into
the bins placed in the main lobby beginning in November. We will collect items until November 20th.
DOLLARS FOR TURKEYS – Each year the PTA partners with our kids to collect money to help families at
Summit Hall ES enjoy a meal for Thanksgiving. If each child donates just $1, we can provide almost 25 families with
funds for a turkey. We will collect dollars each Thursday for the first 3 weeks of November. Thank you in advance for
all your generosity!
