THE SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY
Bethesda - Chevy Chase High School was established in 1926 and
serves the communities of Bethesda, Chevy Chase, Kensington, and
Silver Spring in Montgomery County, Maryland. B-CC is a
comprehensive public high school that has a full complement of
challenging academics and innovative programs, including:
Advanced Placement, Honors, IB Middle Years, and International
Baccalaureate Diploma Programs. B-CC is accredited by the
Middle States Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools and,
also, by the Maryland State Department of Education.

grades 9 – 12 in English, Mathematics, Music, Science, Social
Studies, and World Language. All work in Advanced Level and

PROGRAM BACKGROUND
The International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Program was founded in 1965 to provide a rigorous, well-rounded education recognized throughout
the world. Successful completion of the IB Diploma qualifies a student for university entrance in over 150 countries around the world. Most
American students completing the Diploma Program stay in the US for university studies where the IB Diploma is recognized for its academic
rigor and interdisciplinary nature.
The IB Diploma Program provides a broad, common curriculum that is assessed through internationally-developed and assessed oral and written
examinations. The curriculum is established on goals outlined by the Curriculum Board of the International Baccalaureate in The Hague,
Netherlands.
