Dear Parents/Guardians,
Welcome to the 2015 – 2016 school year at Farquhar Middle School, home of the Roadrunners! The sixth grade
team is looking forward to partnering with parents and students to make the transition to middle school a smooth
and successful one! All of our teachers have been working hard to prepare an exciting learning environment for
your child where he or she can grow academically, socially, and emotionally.
We are very happy to welcome you to the Roadrunner Way. Here at Farquhar Middle School we strive to
demonstrate our core values in all we do. We value self-control, responsibility, honesty, kindness, and
respect. Throughout the year your child will learn lessons on each of these values and how to apply them in
school and beyond.
There is a lot to look forward to in sixth grade. Every class will continue to build on the academic skills learned
in elementary school. There will also be activities to participate in to extend learning beyond the classroom
such as Roadrunner Jams, Greek Day, field trips, Under the Sea, Junior Achievement, Traveling Science Show,
the spring play, Outdoor Education, and more! Information will be sent home as these dates near.
Sixth grade orientation is scheduled for Thursday, August 27th from 8:15am – 12:00pm at Farquhar. Bus
transportation will be provided at the designated bus stops and times. Students will have the opportunity to meet
all of their teachers, visit their classrooms, access their lockers, and learn more about FMS. It is not necessary
for students to bring any school supplies to the orientation. This is not a mandatory orientation, so if you are on
vacation, please do not worry if your child cannot attend. Additionally, there will be a one hour parent meeting
from 11:00am – 12:00pm on the same day. We welcome you to come meet Farquhar’s administrative team and
learn more about how to support your student as he or she transitions to middle school.
Another important date to save on your calendar is Back to School Night. It will take place on Thurs day,
September 10th . More detailed information will be coming home prior to the meeting.
