First Grade Fun December : Reading
First Grade Fun December Reading: This month we will be reading for Literary Experience, Reading for Information, and Reading to Perform a Task. We will focus on main characters, setting, problem and solution. We will also be identifying the lesson learned in a book. Ask your child “What lesson could be learned from this story?” Classes will also be following procedural directions to make gingerbread houses to follow up stories that have been read in class. We will be sending a paper home asking for donations for ingredients. Please check to see what your class should send. Parents are also encouraged to join in the fun by volunteering on that day. Look for more information to come. Math: Our current math focus is related facts. This is when you have 2 numbers, you add them together and then use the same 3 numbers to write a subtraction sentence. 3 + 1 = 4 4 -1 =3 This leads into fact families which are three numbers that can be used together in 4 different number sentences. For example, 3, 4, 7 is a fact family. The number sentences that they make are 3+4=7, 4+3=7, 7-3=4, 7-4=3 Social Studies: W e are learning about different cultures. Each class will be studying a different aspect of culture. Please contact your child’s teacher if you can come in and share an aspect of your culture. Science: W e are learning about motion! How do people and animals move? We will also discover how things can be moved. Have fun playing outside and talking about pushing, pulling, jumping, running, skipping, hopping! How else can you move? Virtues: We encourage you to use the virtues language at home. We are currently using the words generosity and joyfulness!
