Dear Parents of Outdoor Education Students,
Dear Parents of Outdoor Education Students, We look forward to taking your children on our upcoming Outdoor Education field trip at Skycroft. There is a registered nurse on site from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM each day and there will be a designated MCPS teacher who will managing any night time emergencies. MCPS does not offer medication to students unless it is brought in for them by parents, so if you think your child will need anything, you must bring it in to us before the trip. As the Cabin John MS School Nurse, I will be collecting and checking all of the medications that will be taken to Skycroft and giving a list of health conditions and Health Care Plans to the nurse on site to identify children with medical concerns. Since medications are often needed for students, here is some important information for you to keep in mind: 1. Daily medications - If your child takes a daily medication, you should complete a Medication Authorization form 525-13 (available on the MCPS website as well as in your parent packet), so that it can be given by the nurse at Skycroft. You will need a separate form for each medication. All prescription medication requires a physician’s signature and must be in a pharmacy labelled container. 2. Over the Counter/ As Needed Medications - You will also need to complete a form for each over the counter medication that you would like your child to have if needed – for example, Tylenol for headaches or Benadryl for allergies, with the amount to be given noted. If the medication is over the counter, Part One and Part Two of the form should be completed and signed by parents. This should also be brought in an originally labelled container. 3. Emergency Medication - If your child already has an Epipen or inhaler in the Health Room currently, we will send that medication along with the signed form on file. If your child has food allergies, diet restrictions or any other health condition, please include that information in the Outdoor Education permission form. It is very important that students do NOT carry any medication with them. It is not allowed and poses a potential danger to other students. The only exception to this inhalers used for the emergency management of asthma. These can be selfcarried if the prescribing physician has indicated the student is capable of administering the inhaler to themselves. Please bring in all medication and forms by November 24, 2015 directly to the Health Room. We look forward to a great trip! Please feel free to call me or email with any questions.
