Hello all! My name is Alyssa Johnson and I am a junior studying environmental science. I have been a
senator on the Student Government Association for the past year and a half, and would love to
continue my work to make UVM the best community it can be.
As part of the Academic Affairs committee, I have been involved in a number of exciting initiatives to
improve the student experience at UVM. These include creating a peer advising program for first year
students, as well as supporting a centralized advising center for students across campus. Right now,
our committee is in the process of finalizing course syllabi information that will be available to all
students BEFORE course registration. As a student, I think this initiative is incredibly important, and
would love to be able to see it through to fruition. We pay an enormous amount for the courses we
take at UVM, and we should have as much information as possible available when making these
decisions.
Additionally, I have also been involved in supporting the publishing of course evaluation results. This
information is compiled for all courses at UVM, and could also prove useful in course decisions. In
addition to these initiatives, I have also been involved in resolutions supporting survivors of sexual
violence, supporting the reinstatement of reading days and advocating for the Slade
Environmental Cooperative. As a senate, we have worked to recognize and support a huge amount of
student clubs and organizations. I would like to continue to improve relationships between the
Student Government Association and the student body by making the exchange of information more
transparent.
As a senator, I have been involved as a student representative on a number of faculty and university
wide committees, which has allowed me to understand existing systems and be an effective advocate
for students. I also am well versed in the operations of the Student Government senate. These skills,
combined with my love of UVM, will allow me to be an effective senator.
