In 2010, the Advocate ranked Burlington as the "second gayest" city in America, ciing Vermont's many "out" civic leaders and its commiment to social jusice advocacy. Campus Climate The University of Vermont has a visible, strong, and vibrant LGBTQA community including an acive LGBTQA curriculum presence throughout campus. In 2012, UVM ranked in the top 10 Trans-Friendly Colleges and Universiies and among the top 25 LGBTQ-friendly campuses by Campus Pride. Many faculty and staff publicly display rainbow cards that say, “LGBTQA Affirming” (available at the LGBTQA Center). Check out UVM’s LGBTQ faculty and staff web directory under Community on our website at htp://go.uvm.edu/lgbtqa Policies and Laws UVM’s non-discriminaion and ani-harrassment policies include sexual orientaion and gender idenity or expression. The City of Burlington and the state of Vermont prohibit discriminaion on the same grounds. All health insurance sold in Vermont must cover transgender health care. Transgender Inclusion UVM provides a trans-inclusive campus environment with the help of a wide variety of campus partners. Many trans* people have quesions about housing, bathroom and athleic faciliies, campus safety, as well as health and wellbeing, to name just a few. Addiionally, UVM is proud to have been a leader in providing a system by which students may change their names and pronouns, as recognized by the New York Times in 2015, so that they can be recognized as who they are both in the classroom and around campus.
