opens European Program Classes:
A Multilingual and Multicultural Education
The Comprensivo Centro is the first public School in
Brindisi offering a European curriculum for the first
education cycle from nursery to junior high school (age
4 – 13).
By virtue of the Ministerial Decree signed by the Italian
Minister of Education on 1 March 2013, the European
Program classes will begin in the academic year 2013–
14.
The school director, Prof. Angela Citiolo, has been
involved in European funded projects for the past
years. Her team includes colleagues and collaborators
with a broad and extensive teaching experience.
SCHOOL MISSION
Our motto is:
Live together – Work together – Learn together
The cultural identity of our pupils is the basis for their
development as future citizens of the world. Confidence
in their own cultural identity is promoted through
teaching them, whenever possible, in their respective
mother tongue. In this learning environment pupils
discover different cultures and learn to be open and
free of prejudice. This fosters tolerance, cooperation
and communication. Individual religious beliefs are
safeguarded. Teaching of non- confessional ethics is
part of the curriculum.
The main subjects are taught in Italian, in the Italian
section, and in English, in the English section.
Our curriculum is harmonized with the EU curriculum
and is recognized in the Italian school system; this
enables trouble free school transfers.
A final certification at the end of each school year,
attesting the competencies developed and the languages
learned facilitates also the transfer to schools abroad.
Our school is an all-day school with qualified teachers.
Initially there will be two language sections (Italian and
English).
Mathematics and natural sciences are an important focus
for us. All subjects have a European and an international
orientation. The curriculum includes music, arts and
sports. Creativity in music and performing arts is strongly
encouraged.
The main subjects are taught in the languages of the two
sections: Italian and English. Subjects and curricula are
identical for both sections, with the exception of the
mother tongue (L1) lessons.
• Classes in the first foreign language L2 (English for the
Italian section and French for the English section are
compulsory from year 1 of the primary school. A second
foreign language L3 is taught from the second year of the
secondary school.
The teachers are, as far as possible, native speakers,
certified to teach in their respective countries for the
classes for which they are recruited.

The EUROPEAN SCHOOL is a school that offers
its pupils a unique school-leaving certificate called
the European Baccalaureate, which is recognized
by all EU member states. This university entrance
qualification has the same status as the schoolleaving certificate issued to graduating pupils in
their country of origin. By virtue of a decision of the
European Council in 2002, holders of this
Baccalaureate – unlike international schools – are
entitled to study at all universities in all EU member
states. The European Baccalaureate is respected
internationally. Our school shall initiate its
accreditation process as an EU school starting from
September 2013 and therefore will be subject to
yearly quality controls from EU inspectors.

Un'educazione multilingue e multiculturale
L’Istituto Comprensivo Centro è la prima scuola pubblica
a Brindisi ad offrire un curriculum europeo per il primo
ciclo d’istruzione, a partire dalla scuola materna fino alle
scuole secondarie inferiori (età 4- 13 anni).
In virtù di un Decreto Ministeriale firmato dal Ministro
dell’Istruzione in data 1 marzo 2013, le classi a
programma europeo saranno implementate a partire
dall'anno scolastico 2013-2014.
La Direttrice della scuola, Professoressa Angela Citiolo,
negli ultimi cinque anni ha lavorato su progetti didattici
finanziati dall’Unione Europea. E’ assistita da numerosi
docenti e collaboratori con una vasta esperienza nel
campo.

L’identità culturale dei nostri alunni è alla base della loro
formazione di futuri cittadini del mondo. La fiducia nella
loro identità culturale è promossa attraverso
l'insegnamento in lingua madre, quando possibile. Gli
alunni scoprono le diverse culture ed imparano ad
essere aperti e liberi da pregiudizi, promuovendo lo
spirito di tolleranza, collaborazione e comunicazione. La
scuola salvaguarda le differenti fedi religiose e
l’insegnamento dell’etica non confessionale è parte
integrante del curriculum.
Le discipline principali sono insegnate in italiano nelle
sezioni italiane e in inglese in quelle inglesi. Il curriculum
è armonizzato con quello europeo ed è parificato, il che
consente il trasferimento agevole presso altre scuole.
Una certificazione attestante le competenze acquisite,
anche linguistiche, è rilasciata alla fine dell’anno
scolastico.
La nostra è una scuola a tempo pieno con insegnanti
qualificati. Inizialmente sono previste due sezioni
linguistiche (italiana e inglese).
La matematica e le scienze naturali sono per noi un
obiettivo importante. Tutte le discipline hanno un
orientamento europeo e internazionale. Musica, arte e
attività sportive fanno parte del curriculum: in queste
materie la creatività è fortemente incoraggiata.
Le discipline principali sono insegnate nelle lingue delle
due sezioni linguistiche: Italiano e inglese. Le materie e i
programmi sono identici nelle due sezioni, ad eccezione
delle lezioni di lingua italiana e di lingua inglese (L1). Le
lezioni di lingua straniera (L2) (inglese per la sezione
italiana e francese per la sezione inglese sono
obbligatorie dal primo anno di scuola primaria. Una
seconda lingua straniera (L3) è obbligatoria dal secondo
anno di scuola secondaria inferiore.
Gli insegnanti sono, per quanto possibile, madre lingua,
certificati nei paesi d‘origine e abilitati all’insegnamento
per le fasce di età per cui sono reclutati.

La SCUOLA EUROPEA offre ai propri studenti un
diploma noto come Baccalaureato Europeo,
riconosciuto da tutti gli Stati Membri dell’UE. Questo
diploma, che consente l'iscrizione universitaria, è
equipollente ai diplomi rilasciati ai diplomandi
/maturandi nei rispettivi paesi di origine. In virtù di
una Delibera del Consiglio Europeo del 2002, i
titolari del Baccalaureato – a differenza delle scuole
internazionali - hanno il diritto a iscriversi in
qualsiasi università degli Stati Membri dell’UE.
Anche a livello internazionale, il Baccalaureato
Europeo gode di considerazione. La nostra scuola
avvierà la procedura di accreditamento come
Scuola Europea a partire da Settembre 2013 e
pertanto sarà soggetta a ispezioni e controlli annuali
da parte di ispettori europei.
