Examples of successful accountability mechanisms will be examined, drawing out lessons learnt and key innovations, and charting the way for strengthened national ownership of accountability for the Post-2015 Development Agenda. Expected outcome: A shared understanding of the leadership and ownership role required from national actors for effective national accountability, and of the key role that national platforms have to play in the accountability framework for the post-2015 development agenda. Briones, Social Watch, Southeast Asia, Philippines Questions and Answers session 12.00 – 14.00 LUNCH 14.00 – 15.30 Session 2: Regional Platforms for Accountability: Role and Functions for Asia and the Pacific A new global framework for accountability should support and fully integrate existing and functioning regional mechanisms at all levels. Elevating national accountability mechanisms and bringing global mechanisms closer to the ground will be an important balancing act of the future accountability framework. The Asia Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development (APFSD) is mandated as a key regional platform for monitoring and review, integrated into the global High Level Political Forum. The critical role and future format of regional platforms for accountability, in particular that of the APFSD, will be discussed, drawing on best practice and lessons learnt from existing sub and regional platforms. Expected outcome: The APFSD mandate and role as the leading regional accountability platform is shared, with insights garnered from participants on how best to leverage the APFSD in this role, including format of the annual Forum, and links to national and global platforms. Expected outcome: Increase awareness and understanding on the role of philanthropic organizations, the private sector and governments in supporting the post-2015 development agenda, and identifying the role of ESCAP as a Regional Commission in the process.
