CourseDescription EDS377H5/UTM377H5-WhyFirst-YearUniversityMatters:ExploringtheImpactofPeerMentoring(HUM,EXP) Thiscourseexplorescontemporaryissuesinhighereducationwithafocusonexperiences,issuesandchallengescommonly encountered by undergraduate students during their first year of university. Interdisciplinary in its focus, topics of explorationincludeanexaminationofstudentdevelopmenttheories,modelsofstudentengagementandaninvestigation into mindset, levels of persistence, habits of mind, and personality characteristics that impact student success. An internshipcomponentisrequired.Studentstakingthecoursewillassumeapeer-mentoringroletoapplyandcontextualize theoriesandskillslearnedinthecourse.Thisisaclosedcourseopenonlytothosestudentswhohavesuccessfullysecured apeer-mentoringpositionwiththeFirst-YearPeerMentoringprogram. *StudentsintheEducationMinorshouldenrolinEDS377H5.StudentsnotintheEducationMinorshouldenrolin UTM377H5.
