IGUANA IN THE SPOTLIGHT – Professor Derry’s Adventure Professor Ken Derry, wanderer of many paths and Professor of History of Religions, is interested in “the ways in which modern cultural products relate to more ‘traditional’ religious beliefs and practices” (https://www.utm.utoronto.ca/historicalstudies/people/derry-ken). He told the HSS that he “never had a friend with an iguana,” and “never said anything like ‘I know a lot about iguanas.’” Despite these claims, the following article was published in the University of Toronto Varsity ten years ago: ! Barry, David Alan. “Iguana Crashes Summer Exam.” The University of Toronto Varsity, September 5, 1995, Volume 116, No. 4, Varsity Shorts. Iguanas are considered an endangered species in most other countries, but were brought to Puerto Rico in the 1970s and became an invasive species. It costs Puerto Rico $80,000 each year to keep the International Airport free of this invasive species. To rid themselves of the Iguana pest, the government plans to kill as many as possible and harvest and sell the meat. PHOTO: "Alimentación De La Iguana Verde." Siempre a Tu Lado. October 10, 2013.
