The Physics Department of Saarland University invites applications for a... in the field of experimental biophysics Junior Professor (W1, "Assistant Professor")
The Physics Department of Saarland University invites applications for a position at the level of a
Junior Professor (W1, "Assistant Professor")
to develop an outstanding research program in the field of experimental biophysics with a focus
on "physics of cells" to complement existing strengths of our department. We have established
groups working on subjects including cell mechanics, cellular self-organization, and active transport
phenomena. There are extensive opportunities for collaborations within the physics, biophysics, and
biology departments and the university's medical faculty in Homburg (Saar) as well as opportunities
for participation in the planned Collaborative Research Center 1027 "Physical models of nonequilibrium processes in biological systems". Collaborations with groups working in the "Greater
Region" of Saarland and Rhineland-Palatinate in Germany, the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, the
French region of Lorraine and Belgian Wallonia will be particularly supported.
We seek candidates who will establish a competitive research program supported by external
funding. Possible areas of research include physics of cell adhesion and cell movement, active
transport phenomena, cellular self-organization, and biological information processing. Candidates
with a track record of independent funding and publications in highly considered journals will be
given the highest consideration.
The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to teaching courses in experimental physics
as well as to the further development of our bachelor and master programs in physics and
biological physics.
Applicants must possess a university degree in a field related to physics and a Ph.D.
Saarland University is committed to Equal Opportunity and Diversity. Women and
individuals with disabilities are encouraged to apply.
Applicants should send a cover letter, curriculum vitae, research and teaching statement, list of
publications, and copies of certificates in written or electronic form including their working and
private address and the reference number W466 to Prof. Dr. H. Seidel, [email protected]; Universität des Saarlandes, Dekanat Fakultät 7, Campus, 66123 Saarbrücken.
Applications received by February 6, 2012 will receive full consideration.
