Can an individual or organization give truly impartial advice to a customer regarding a specific
publisher if they have a financially beneficial relationship with that publisher? Can a SAM practice give
impartial advice regarding tool choice if they are paid by a tool provider? Will an organization that is
paid by a publisher to undertake a ‘customer review’ really act in the best interests of the end client?
These are important ethical issues facing our industry, so join us to discuss and debate all these
scenarios and contribute your thoughts on the subject.

SAMGarde Pro Bono Friday
• SAMGarde have had a corporate policy for several years
now that their employees can give up some of their Fridays
to do Pro Bono SAM work for registered charities
• The benefits have been considerable for the charities significantly greater than the cost of the time donated
• More and more charities are interested in taking advantage
of the scheme
• SAMGarde would like to explore ways to extend the
programme beyond their own employees and are in
discussions with the BCS CMSG to see how this could be
facilitated
