Mike Short
As an active industry
analyst, Dale has
extensive experience
in both end-user and
vendor
environments.
In the first part of his
career, he held
positions as developer, architect and
project manager within companies such
as Glaxo and Heineken. He later moved
on to the vendor community and worked
in various consulting, business
development and management roles at
Nortel Networks, SAP, JD Edwards and
Sybase. Dale has worked as an industry
analyst since the year 2000, initially with
Bloor Research, and later with Quocirca,
where he developed and ran the
company’s core primary research
business.
Jonathan is a
futurologist and
gadget expert. A
first class honours
graduate in
Computer Science
from the University
of Hertfordshire in
1988, and having undertaken a wide range
of roles in more than twenty years with BT
including research, systems deployment, and
technology and management consultancy,
he now operates freelance with different
organisations to help them understand the
impacts of future disruptive change on their
businesses. He travels widely to speak to,
inspire and provoke a range of audiences on
futures topics, and also writes for many
journals and magazines and makes media
contributions. He was invited to advise the
BBC's science magazine, 'Focus' as futures
expert in 2008. As is evident from his blog
(www.jonathanuk.net), Jonathan covers the
whole range of futures topics, but has
special interests in device and gadget
futures, and also robotics and
nanotechnology. Although coming at
futurology from a science and technology
perspective, Jonathan is keen to stress that
the future is about much more, and hence
he also relates his material to economic,
social and business contexts. He also uses
his research background to help advise
organisations on successful innovation
