DUO ETERNA
DUO ETERNA
Duo Eterna was founded in 2001 by guitarists Paolo De Stefano and Luigi De Leo, with the
intention of discover new music for two guitars and develop the potential of this
ensemble.
The result is a duo that, on the "line" of the Assad brothers, develops a new repertoire of
original music and transcriptions, from Baroque to contemporary music with jazz influences
and contaminations, especially from brazilian music.
Defined by the critics “Extraordinarily talented”, Paolo De Stefano, and Luigi De Leo
began their musical studies under the guidance of Marcello Serafini and Fabio Pellizzari in
Varese, Italy. They then entered the Conservatoire “G. Verdi” of Milan where, in 2004, they
got the degree with the maximum of marks under the guidance of Francesco Biraghi.
Until now they have taken part in several national and international guitar contests, being
awarded with prizes either as soloist or as a guitar-duo in Varese, Ispra, Stresa, Casarza
Ligure, Mondovì and Castelfidardo.
In 2002 they have won an audition in the Conservatoire of Milan which gave them the
opportunity to take part in the 5th edition of the “Valsassina Festival” in the province of
Lecco.
Since then their guitar-duo has taken part in many musical performances such as:
“Concerts in the cloister” of the Conservatoire, Musical Season of the Diocesan Museum of
Milan, “Mediterranean Festival” in Cervo di Imperia, “Festival of Ticino”, “Chamber Music
Festival” in Val d’Esino, “Novara Classique Festival” and others. And every time they have
earned unanimous praises from their audiences. Furthermore, they have attended courses
with some of the best known international guitar players such as Matteo Mela, Andrew
Zohn, Richard Todd, Lorenzo Micheli, Paolo Pegoraro, Stefano Viola, Bruno Giuffredi, the
hungarian guitar-duo Katona and the Assad Brothers. For several years they have played
in the guitar orchestra “Sextha Consort” of Varese, that has performed throughout Italy
and made a tour to hungary to Godollo and Budapest.
A collaboration with the Columbia College of Chicago (USA) has given them the
opportunity to perform a concert in the same city in 2004.
Many magazines wrote about the guitar duo, such as “La Prealpina”, “Lombardia Oggi”,
“La Repubblica” and the television channel “Rete 55”.
Their first CD, "Eterna", was reviewed on Classical Guitar Magazine (UK), Gendai Guitar
(Japan), as well as the online magazine DotGuitar and the blog Chitarra e dintorni.
This album contains works dedicated to the duo, including "Brasilerinhas" by Calrice Assad
and "Trittico d'Estate" by Gianluca Fortino.
