Parliamo di stivali / Let’s talk about boots
Gli stivali da moto devono essere rigidi, difficilmente penetrabili da eventuali corpi contundenti, resistere all’abrasione di una
scivolata anche lunga, proteggere le articolazioni sensibili della caviglia e le dita dei piedi, coprire e proteggere la tibia. E devono
essere comodi, ergonomici e certificati.
Le calzature di protezione per motociclisti sono considerati dispositivi di protezione individuale (DPI) e seguono le direttive della
normativa europea di riferimento EN 13634:2010.
Tale normativa impone delle misure standard per quanto riguarda l’altezza della tomaia nelle varie taglie e regola il verso e la
posizione delle cuciture esterne che devono essere posizionate in modo da evitarne lo strappo in caso di scivolata.
Motorcycle boots must be stiff, hard to penetrate by blunt objects, resist to the abrasion of a long sideslip, protect frail ankle joints
and foot fingers, cover and protect shinbones. They must be also comfortable, ergonomic and certified.
Protective footwear for motorcycle riders is considered as personal protective equipment (PPE) and must comply with the
provisions set forth in the reference European Standard EN 13634:2010.
This Standard dictates the authoritative upper height measures for the different sizes and regulates the direction and position of
outer seams which must be located so as to prevent tears in case of sideslip.
I test di riferimento della normativa sono tre e per ottenere la certificazione lo stivale deve superare tutti i parametri fissati dalla
normativa, ovvero:
There are three standard reference tests. To be certified, boots must fulfil all the parameters set forth by the Standard, namely:
a) Resistenza della tomaia all’abrasione da impatto / Resistance of the upper to impact abrasion
Il provino con il materiale di cui è composto lo stivale viene fatto cadere su un rullo di
carta vetrata che gira a 8 m/s. A seconda dei parametri ottenuti, si distinguono due livelli
prestazionali.
A test specimen made of the boot material is dropped onto a revolving sandpaper rolling
at 8 m/s. Based on the achieved parameters, two performance levels can be identified.
b) Resistenza della tomaia al taglio da impatto / Resistance of the upper to impact cut
Una lama viene fatta cadere sul provino con il materiale dello stivale teso da dei pesi : in
base alla penetrazione della lama si distinguono due livelli di protezione.
A blade is dropped onto a test specimen made of the boot material, which is tensioned by
means of weights: based on blade penetration, two protection levels can be identified.

c) Rigidità traversa del fondo della calzatura (schiacciamento) / Transverse rigidity of footwear bottom (squashing)
Lo scopo della prova è verificare il grado di protezione simulando il caso in cui il piede
finisca sotto la moto. In base al risultato si distinguono due livelli prestazionali.
This tests aims at checking the protection degree by simulating the biker’s foot being
crushed under the bike. Based on the achieved result, two performance levels can be
identified.
Livello 1 / Level 1
Indica che lo stivale ha superato il requisito minimo richiesto dalla normativa per garantire protezione in caso d’incidente e un adeguato
livello di comfort per tutti gli utilizzi.
This level indicates that the boot meets the minimum requirements defined by the standard to ensure protection in case of accident and
a suitable comfort level for all-purpose use.
Livello 2 / Level 2
Garantisce una maggiore protezione ed un incremento nelle performance, in particolare ai prodotti destinati ad uso agonistico/professionale,
anche se ciò può comportare limitazioni dovute a maggior peso e pertanto minor comfort.
This level ensures greater protection and improved performance, in particular for products for race/professional use, even if this can lead
to some limitations due to heavier weight and, thus, reduced comfort.
L’utilizzatore dovrà scegliere il livello di prestazione e di comfort più adeguati alla sua moto, allo stile di guida ed alle performance
specifiche.
End-users are advised to choose the performance and comfort level most suitable to their bike, riding style and specific performance.
Oltre ai test principali che riguardano lo stivale intero, ogni parte dello stivale (tomaia, fodera, sottopiede, soletta di pulizia, suola)
deve soddisfare determinati parametri specifici, quali ad esempio la solidità dei colori, l’atossicità dei materiali, l’abrasione.
Oltre ai test obbligatori si possono effettuare altre prove opzionali come:
- Protezioni di tibia e malleoli devono rispettare determinate dimensioni minime e offrire un certo grado di protezione dagli impatti
(le sigle che compaiono sullo stivale sono rispettivamente IPS e IPA)
- Resistenza all’acqua della calzatura water-resistant con l’area totale bagnata (la sigla che compare sullo stivale è WR)
- Resistenza agli idrocarburi- HO Incremento volume (la sigla che compare sullo stivale è HO)
- Resistenza allo scivolamento (la sigla che compare sullo stivale è SRA/B/C)
- Permeabilità al vapore acqueo della tomaia (la sigla che compare sullo stivale è B)
Tutti questi parametri sono riassunti in un’etichetta presente sui vari modelli.
Besides the main tests on the whole boot, each single boot component (upper, lining, footbed, insole, outsole) must meet several
specific requirements, such as colour fastness, non-toxicity of the material, abrasion resistance.
Besides compulsory tests, other optional tests can be carried out. In particular:
- Shin and ankle protections: they must respect specific minimum sizes and offer a certain protection degree against impacts
(footwear complying with this requirement is respectively marked with the codes IPS and IPA).
- Resistance of water-resistant footwear to water penetration with the total wet area (footwear complying with this requirement
is marked with the code WR)
- Resistance to hydrocarbons - HO Volume increase (footwear complying with this requirement is marked with the code HO)
- Slip resistance (footwear complying with this requirement is marked with the code SRA/B/C)
- Water vapour permeability of the upper (footwear complying with this requirement is marked with the code B)
All these parameters are summarised on the label on the different models.

Cura e manutenzione / Care and maintenance
Il prodotto esprime pienamente le sue caratteristiche di sicurezza solo se è conservato correttamente. La durata del prodotto varia
in base alla tipologia e alle modalità di utilizzo e di manutenzione.
Ecco alcuni consigli da trasferire ai clienti:
- Dopo l’uso, rimuovere lo sporco con una spazzola morbida o un panno inumidito con acqua. Per lo sporco più resistente, usare
acqua o sapone neutro
- Non utilizzare solventi, prodotti chimici aggressivi o spazzole troppo dure
- Non lavare gli stivali in lavatrice e non usare idropulitrici
- Fare asciugare in un luogo asciutto e ben aerato, lontano da fonti di calore
- Nei periodi di inutilizzo, non conservare in sacchetti di plastica o contenitori ermetici
- In caso di inutilizzo prolungato, è consigliato estrarre le parti interne
- Conservare riposti nella scatola, inserendo della carta da giornale all’interno, chiudendo correttamente zip e Velcro™
In caso di danneggiamento, rottura, eccessiva usura e/o deformazione della tomaia o della suola gli stivali vanno sostituiti.
Products fully maintain their safety characteristics only if correctly stored. Product lifetime varies based on how it is used and
maintained.
Here are some advice for customers:
- After use, remove any dirt with a soft brush or a piece of cloth soaked in water. In case of persistent dirt, use water or neutral soap
- Do not use solvents, aggressive chemicals or hard brushes
- Do not wash boots inside a washing machine and do not use high pressure water jet cleaners
- Let boots dry in a dry and well aerated place, far from heat sources
- Do not store boots inside plastic bags or sealed containers when you do not use them
- If stored for a long time, remove inner parts
- Store inside the original box, filling it with newspaper, and with zips and Velcro™ correctly fastened
If boot upper or outsole is damaged, broken, excessively worn and/or deformed, replace boots.

zone a spessore differenziato, studiate per seguire al meglio la conformazione del collo del piede e della tibia una volta gonfiate. Tramite la pompa è dunque possibile
gonfiare progressivamente la camera d’aria, regolando la pressione sul piede e ottimizzando così la calzata. Una valvola di sfiato in ottone e acciaio, infine, permette
una regolazione fine e il completo sgonfiaggio della camera d’aria, in modo da facilitare lo sfilamento dello stivale alla fine del suo utilizzo. Il Torsion Control System®che
equipaggia lo stivale è un’evoluzione del concetto di protezione della caviglia brevettato da TCX®. Lo sviluppo del sistema è andato nella direzione di ridurre il peso
complessivo dello stivale, di aumentare il controllo meccanico dei movimenti della caviglia e della gamba, oltre a migliorare la resistenza in caso d’urto. Il sistema è dotato

harmonic and immediately recognisable as a product conceived for high level motorbike racing performance. The total comfort of Ducati Corse boots, combined with
the Precise Air Fit System, is the outcome of targeted design and the use of the best materials. For example, the anatomic “Race Performance” insole is in particularly

progressively inflate the air chamber, adjusting the pressure on the feet and optimising the fit. A release valve in brass and steel provides fine adjustment and complete
deflation of the air chamber to simplify boot removal after use. The Torsion Control System® incorporated into the boot is a development of the ankle protection system
patented by TCX®. The evolution of the material has moved toward reducing the overall weight of the boot, to increase the mechanical control over the movements of

The Carbon tech version of the T.C.S.® system is also enhanced with a new joint
positioned at the top of the boot. This joint has been designed to increase flexibility at the
rear of the boot and allow the leg to return rapidly to the initial driving position.
This sliding pocket on the rear of the boot improves mechanical movement along the
lateral and longitudinal axes of the ankle, increasing, moreover, the boot’s hold on the calf
and shinbone when bent.

Metatarsial Control System® (M.C.S.®)
Il sistema M.C.S.® usa lo stesso concetto del T.C.S.® ed è stato progettato per prevenire le eccessive flessioni, verso l’alto o verso il basso, della zona
del metatarso, tramite due punti di arresto programmati sulla struttura in poliuretano che funge anche da attacco per lo slider in lega di alluminio,
facilmente intercambiabile grazie ad un comodo sistema a viti protette.
The M.C.S.® system uses the same concept as T.C.S.® and has been designed to control upward and downward bending of the metatarsal. This
is achieved through two stopping points designed to prevent any lesions to the joint. The system is equipped with an aluminum alloy slider that is
resistant wear and easily interchangeable due to a convenient system with protected screws.
Precise Air Fit System® – P.A.F.S. ®
L’idea nasce da una considerazione molto semplice:
a seconda delle caratteristiche anatomiche di ogni individuo, il volume del piede umano varia soprattutto nel tallone, nel collo del piede e nel polpaccio.
Viceversa gli stivali hanno un volume fisso, utilizzano una forma specifica di montaggio, e si adattano al piede solo tramite chiusure e appositi e sistemi
di regolazione, come allacciature, zip o Velcro™.
La soluzione ideale a questa esigenza di flessibilità del volume dello stivale è Precise Air Fit System®. Questo sistema è un’alternativa rivoluzionaria al

The idea was devised from a very simple analysis:
the volume of the human foot varies depending on the anatomical characteristics of each individual (particularly in the instep, heel and calf). Conversely,
boots have a fixed volume, using a specific form of fitting, and adapt to the foot only via dedicated closing and fastening systems such as lacing
systems, zips or Velcro™.
The perfect solution to this big motorcycling need is the Air Precise Fit System®. This system is a revolutionary alternative to the traditional inner
fastening.
Il sistema è costituito da una vera e propria camera d’aria in poliuretano antibatterico e
anallergico che, grazie ad una pompa inserita nella parte alta del gambetto, può variare il
suo volume. La camera d’aria è divisa in zone a spessore differenziato, studiate per seguire
al meglio la conformazione del collo del piede e della tibia una volta gonfiate. Tramite la
pompa è dunque possibile gonfiare progressivamente la camera d’aria, regolando la
pressione sul piede e ottimizzando così la calzata.
Il pratico sistema di rilascio è costituito da una valvola di sfiato in ottone e acciaio che,
posizionata sopra il sistema P.A.F.S.®, permette una regolazione fine e il completo

The system comprises a physical air chamber, made from antibacterial, antiallergenic
polyurethane of differing thicknesses positioned beneath the front fold of the boot in
balance with the instep and shinbone areas.
The system is also fitted with a polyurethane pump, housed in the supporting structure
at the top of the boot, that uses fast, simple pressure to gradually inflate the air chamber.
This allows the boot to adapt perfectly to the shape of the foot/leg, offering a precise fit
and the ability to personalise the boot depending on the individual requirements of the
motorcyclist.
The practical Air Release system (that comprises an anti-rust, brass and steel valve) is
positioned above the P.A.F. System® and allows you to quickly release air after using the
boot on a track or road.

Soft Pad padding. The inner padding is made from dual-component expanded polyurethane and shaped using a special moulding process that prevents
the material from deforming over time and gives it an anatomical “memory” that adapts to the shape of the ankle. The special shaping around the
ankle and heel wraps the foot, preventing the bothersome undercutting effect of the boot. The feeling of comfort around the foot is enhanced by the
presence of a Lycra® lining injected directly onto the padding.

Già dal nome è facile capire la destinazione d’uso di questo stivale, pensato
per offrire un alto livello di protezione e di comfort. La tomaia è in morbida
microfibra, dalle particolari doti di leggerezza e traspirabilità. La costruzione dello
stivale prevede poi due ampi soffietti imbottiti, uno frontale e uno posteriore,
per la massima mobilità del piede anche in presenza di una posizione di guida
più sportiva. La fodera è in pregiato materiale Air Tech, mentre le protezioni
prevedono un’ampia zona in PU sul tallone e sulla tibia, il paraleva e un inserto
in PU per la zona del malleolo. È presente uno slider anteriore intercambiabile in
poliuretano. Per il massimo comfort, il plantare è di tipo anatomico, antibatterico
e intercambiabile. Lo stivale è certificato secondo le più recenti normative CE.
The intended use for this boot is clear right from the name, designed to offer a
high level of protection and comfort. The upper is in soft microfibre, particularly
light and breathable. The boot design includes two large padded bellows, one
front and one back, for maximum foot mobility even in a more racing style
position. The lining is in quality Air Tech material, while the protectors include a
wide zone in PU on the heel and shin, the gearshift protector and a PU insert for
the ankle bone area. There is a front interchangeable slider in polyurethane. For
maximum comfort the insole is anatomic, antibacterial, and interchangeable.
This boot is certified under the most recent EU standards.

Strada 13 è un modello che unisce comfort, resistenza e sicurezza. I loghi
Ducati sono termoformati su tibia e piede e stampati in rosso su reflex sul
tallone. La protezione è ottimizzata attraverso una schermatura esterna
nella zona del malleolo e una in quella della tibia. La suola utilizza aree a grip
differenziato per ottimizzare comfort e stabilità sulla pedana. Il modello è
realizzato in pelle pieno fiore, alla quale viene abbinata la membrana GoreTex®, per affrontare le più avverse condizioni atmosferiche. Completano
lo stivale i rinforzi per la punta e il tallone, nonché il plantare anatomico e
removibile e il Comfort Fit System per avere sempre il massimo del comfort
in ogni situazione. Lo stivale è certificato CE.

Strada 13 is a model that combines comfort, toughness, and safety. The
Ducati logos are thermoformed on the shin and foot and printed in red on
the heel reflector. Protection is optimised with external shielding of the ankle
bone area and over the shinbone. The outsole has differential grip zones to
optimise comfort and stability on the footrest. This model is made in full grain
leather, combined with a Gore-Tex® membrane to keep out the worst weather
conditions. Toecap and heel reinforcements complete the boot, together with
an anatomic, removable insole and the Comfort Fit System to ensure maximum
comfort in every situation. This boot is EC certified.
