Quando Cosimo de Medici,
alla fine del XVI° secolo, scelse
Livorno come scalo per il Granducato - culla del Rinascimento
italiano e potente nazione di
mercanti e banchieri - ne aveva
intuito le potenzialità dovute
anche alla sua posizione strategica non lontana da Firenze, ed
equidistante dagli altri Comuni: Pisa, Siena, Pistoia, Lucca, ed
ancora San Gimignano, Certaldo, Volterra, terre ricche di storia e di talenti, dove si sente an-
cora l’eco della cultura etrusca e
romana.
Nei secoli Livorno ha ereditato la tradizione delle Repubbliche Marinare, fra le quali
quella della vicina Pisa, affermando la sua centralità nelle
rotte mediterranee e transoceaniche, diventando porto
polifunzionale di rilevanza internazionale.
Oggi Livorno è un importante
scalo commerciale che non ha
perso di vista la sua vocazione
turistica di porto destinato alle

Livorno is the gateway to Tuscany when arriving by sea. This
region is one of the most popular tourist destinations in world
for its history, art and countryside.
Cosimo de Medici, showed
great foresight when he chose
Livorno as the seaport for the
Granduchy of Florence at the
end of the 16th century. The
Granduchy was the cradle of
the Renaissance and a city state
made powerful by its bankers
and merchants. Livorno is ideally located; it is 80km from Florence and equidistant from Pisa,
Siena, Pistoia, Lucca, as well as
San Gimignano, Certaldo and
Volterra. However, the area’s
cultural heritage is not limited
to the Renaissance and visitors
can admire fine Etruscan and
Roman remains.
Over the course of the centuries Livorno has inherited the
mantle of an Italian Maritime
Republic. In this regard it has
overtaken its neighbour Pisa
and strengthened its strategic position as a crossroads for
Mediterranean and transoceanic sea traffic. Livorno is now a
multi-functional port of prime
importance for trade and has
a well established infrastructure for the smooth handling
of passenger and cruise ship
traffic. Livorno and its port are
the gateway to a region synonymous with creativity, beauty

Furono la cultura ed i commerci
a rendere famosa la città di Livorno ed il suo porto fra le genti di
tutto il mondo. Porto franco, città
multietnica popolata da comunità provenienti da ogni nazione,
collegata con il mondo occidentale e orientale, tollerante e aperta per le religioni che vi convivevano in pace, Livorno è cresciuta
nella prosperità degli scambi e
del confronto interculturale.
Vengono dalla sua storia almeno
due delle caratteristiche dei suoi
abitanti: l’accoglienza e il senso
di ospitalità. E l’accoglienza, insieme alla cura dei propri clienti,
è la mission della Società Porto
di Livorno 2000, nata per offrire,
ai turisti di passaggio nel porto
e nella città, servizi e strutture di
qualità.
Porto di Livorno 2000, insieme ad Autorità Portuale, Comune e Provincia di Livorno, stanno promuovendo una serie di
iniziative a partire dall’InfoPoint permanente ubicato nella
Piazza principale della Città, Piazza Grande, a pochi passi dal
porto e collegato alle banchine da un servizio di navetta.
Per guidare i turisti alla scoperta dei punti più caratteristici
della città sono state create alcune società, a partecipazione
pubblica/privata, come il Consorzio Toscana Mediterranea.
Sono organizzati giri in battello con partenza dall’Infopoint,
altre escursioni e tours in città con pullmann come quelli della City Sightseeing Livorno. Il recente accordo con la AirDynamic garantisce servizi privati elicotteristici per i tour d’èlite.
Sono disponibili anche servizi di navetta da e per il centro
commerciale poco distante. Limitrofo al porto il “Mercatino
Americano”, famoso mercato livornese, nato all’indomani
della seconda guerra mondiale, dove era possibile trovare di
tutto.

Porto di Livorno 2000, together with the Livorno Port Authorities and Local Authority are promoting a series of initiatives
starting with an InfoPoint permanently located in the city’s
main square, Piazza del Municipio, just a short walk from the
port and connected to the cruise terminals by shuttle.
A number of companies have been established to provide guided tours around the city’s leading sights. These companies are
government/private sector run and include Consorzio Toscana
Mediterranea, which organises boat tours that start from the
Infopoint and other excursions such as City Sightseeing, opentop bus tours. Our new partnership AirDynamic provides elite
private helicopter services in the area. There is also a shuttle service to and from the nearby shopping centre. Next to the port
visitors can explore Livorno’s famous “Mercatino Americano”,
which sprang up just after the second world war. Here locals
had their first taste of American products and were able to find
everything that American GIs had introduced into Italy and Europe. Today the market continues this tradition.

Originally, it was a free port with
a multi-ethnic population whose

harmony. As a result the city’s
prosperity increased thanks to

IL TERMINAL CROCIERE
Ogni anno circa un milione di
crocieristi scalano le banchine del porto toscano. Un dato
destinato a aumentare, sia per
il numero di navi in continua
crescita, sia per le dimensioni
dei vettori che ospitano ormai
migliaia di persone, fra passeggeri ed equipaggi.
Proprio pensando al loro benessere è stato creato un apposito terminal adiacente alle
banchine, nel cuore della città,
dalle quali è possibile scorgere
le Mura e le Fortezze Medicee,
oltre alle principali arterie del
centro commerciale cittadino.
Poco distante dal primo è in
fase di progettazione un secondo Terminal Crociere che
permetterà l’approdo a navi di
grandi dimensioni. Sarà organizzato secondo le più funzionali esigenze del mercato crocieristico e dotato di strutture
all’avanguardia.
A pochi passi dal porto si trova l’Infopoint dove i turisti,
che non hanno già prenotato
escursioni nelle città limitrofe,
possono reperire utili informazioni per la loro permanenza in
città e nei dintorni.
Grazie alla qualità dei servizi of-
ferti ed ai moderni sistemi di sicurezza molte Compagnie
di Navigazione hanno scelto Livorno come home port oltre che come scalo di transito.
Per chi arriva in aereo la sinergia con la Società Aeroporto
di Pisa facilita la mobilità dei turisti provenienti da tutta
Europa che, dal vicino aeroscalo Galileo Galilei, vogliono
raggiungere il porto di Livorno. Parcheggi custoditi per

THE CRUISE TERMINAL
About one million cruise passengers disembark at this
Tuscan port and the number is on the increase, both due
to the growth in cruisers coming to the area and the ever
larger vessels that carry thousands of people – both passengers and crew.
A purpose-built terminal has been prepared precisely
with their needs in mind. It is in the heart of the city and
has a fine view of the Renaissance walls and Medicean
Fortress, as well as being connected to the city’s main thoroughfares and shopping centre. Just a short distance away, a
second Cruise terminal is being
planned that will accommodate
ships of large dimensions. It will
be designed to ensure that the
needs of cruise passengers are
fully met and will have cutting
edge facilities.
The information point is just a
short walk from the port and
it is possible for tourists, who
have not booked excursions, to
get information on how best to
spend their time in the city and
its surroundings.
The terminal is equipped with
high security X-ray equipment
and a modern baggage distribution system.
Many cruise lines have chosen
Livorno as a home port as well
as a transit point thanks to the
quality of services on offer and
the modern security systems.

and Port Facility Security (ISPS)

Presso il terminal trovano
sede gli Uffici della Porto di
Livorno 2000, ubicati al pri-
mo piano. Adiacenti altri uffici destinati alle Compagnie
di Navigazione e alle imprese
portuali. Al piano terreno, su
una superficie coperta di tremila mq, si trova il terminal
dell’accoglienza ai crocieristi,
dotato di ampie sale d’attesa
e spazi per gli ospitality desk,
con personale multilingue.
Per le navi in transito questi sono collocati sottobordo alle navi da crociera con
possibilità, su richiesta, di di-
slocarli all’interno delle navi.
Inoltre bar e caffetteria, oltre
a un’area destinata alla consegna e riconsegna bagagli
fornita di scanner per controlli doganali e sicurezza.
Un Ufficio assistenza con
personale multilingue è a disposizione per i turisti e sono
prenotabili interpreti e/o
guide per visite individuali. È

2000 has increased security
systems by using the most
sophisticated and effective
technological counter measures, as recommended by the
International Ship and Port
Facility Security (ISPS) Code.
The offices of Porto di Livorno 2000 are on the first floor
of the terminal building next
to the offices used by other
Shipping and Port Companies. The 3000m2 ground
floor is dedicated to welcoming cruise passengers.
There are spacious waiting areas and hospitality desks with
personnel who speak a whole

LA STAZIONE MARITTIMA
Il terminal dedicato ai passeggeri ha a disposizione un’ampia
superficie, sia coperta che scoperta, per i turisti, le auto al seguito ed i veicoli commerciali,
limitrofa alle aree urbane, con
accessi e viabilità dedicati.
Porto di Livorno 2000 vi fornisce assistenza ai traghetti che
quotidianamente collegano la
costa con le Isole e con alcuni
Paesi del Mediterraneo. Grazie
a numerosi ormeggi è in grado
di ospitare le navi Ro-Pax e RoRo delle diverse Compagnie di
Navigazione.
La vicinanza della Stazione Marittima ai piazzali di sosta per
l’imbarco dei veicoli consente ai
passeggeri di usufruire dei vari
servizi offerti all’interno della
struttura: biglietterie, bar, area
di ristoro, mini market, attività
commerciali, servizi di autonoleggio. L’accesso alla Stazione
Marittima per i passeggeri con
mobilità ridotta è garantito da
rampe e percorsi di accesso
dedicati. Il terminal è utilizzato
anche per meeting e convegni
grazie all’ampia sala conferenze ubicata al primo piano.
Parcheggi per la lunga giacenza si trovano a poche decine di
metri dal Terminal e sono collegati al terminal con un servizio
di navetta.

THE PASSENGER TERMINAL
The passenger terminal is very
large with both open-air and
under cover areas to accommodate tourists, their cars and
commercial vehicles. It is next
to the city centre with dedicated access and roads.
Porto di Livorno 2000 provides
services to ferries that travel
from the Tuscan coast to the
popular outlying islands as well
as other Mediterranean countries. Thanks to its numerous
moorings it can accommodate
Ro-Pax and Ro-Ro vessels for
many shipping lines.
The proximity of the passenger
terminal to the vehicle board-
ing area means that passengers
can take advantage of numerous services while waiting to
board their vessels. There are,
of course, ticket offices, a bar
and catering area, a mini market, shops and car rental companies.
For passengers with impaired
mobility there are special access routes and ramps. The terminal also has a large conference room on the first floor for
meetings and conferences.
Long-term parking is available
just a few metres from the terminal and is connected by a
regular shuttle service.

The terminal buildings have also
been designed to satisfy the needs
of tourist congresses. The first floor
has a conference and cultural events
hall that can seat 350 attendees and

There is a daily service to
Capraia, which can be reached
in just 90 minutes, Sardinia is 5
hours away and Corsica 4.
The many ferry lines departing from Livorno have a large

SCRIGNO DI TESTIMONIANZE STORICHE
Come la sua famosa Terrazza Mascagni, protesa sul mare, Livorno si offre
ad abbracciare i naviganti ed i turisti
che cercano rifugio lungo la costa, fra le
sue strade, nei canali dove non arriva il
libeccio.
Le Fortezze Medicee sembrano ancora
difenderne gli abitanti che avevano fat-
to della libertà la loro bandiera e che a
Livorno si davano convegno senza paura di essere perseguitati.
Una città “giovane” fra quelle toscane,
nata nel XVI° secolo, ma non di minor fascino. Basta attraversare il suo più antico
quartiere, “La Venezia”, orlato di canali,
per sentire riecheggiare le parole di uno
dei suoi più famosi concittadini, il poeta
Giorgio Caproni: “Anima mia, leggera va’
a Livorno, ti prego...”.
Grazie ad un suggestivo giro in battello
è possibile ripercorrere i “Fossi” e scoprire la città a pelo d’acqua, apprezzandone gli angoli più nascosti, entrando negli antichi magazzini, chiamati “cantine”.
Oppure esplorarla dall’alto grazie ad un
servizio di open bus per la visita guidata
alla città.
Non si può dimenticare che Livorno è la
città natale di artisti di fama internazionale, da Modigliani a Fattori, a Mascagni,
solo per citarne alcuni, che nella musica e
nella pittura portavano il loro cuore mediterraneo e generoso. I Musei civici, fra cui
quello di arte contemporanea, ne conservano ancora le opere e i cimeli. A completare il quadro delle strutture museali, poco
distante dal porto, il moderno Acquario,
secondo per importanza in Italia.
LIVORNO:
A HISTORICAL TREASURE TROVE
Just like the beautiful Terrazza Mascagni
promenade that embraces the sea,
Livorno welcomes sea passengers and
tourists with open arms. Here visitors
can enjoy rest and relaxation all along
the coast, while the city’s characteristic
streets and the canals provide shelter
from the strong sea winds.
The two Mediciean fortresses are still
standing and look over Livorno’s inhabitants. The city was founded by the Medici
who populated it by granting pardons to
“undesirables”. As a result, these people
could live here without fear of persecution, this sense of freedom and exuberance can still be found in the descendants of the city’s founders.
Although Livorno is “young” compared
to other Tuscan cities (it was built in
the 16th century) it is no less fascinating. Visitors should wander around the
streets of the “Venezia” quarter, with its
meandering canals. The attraction of
city is evoked in the words of one of its
famous citizens, the poet Giorgio Caproni, “Anima mia, leggera va’ a Livorno, ti
prego…..” [my soul, go lightly to Livorno,
I pray thee…”]
It is possible to take a relaxing tour of
the “Fossi” (canals) and discover the city
from water-level, seeing places that are
hidden from the view of pedestrians
and cars, visitors can also explore the old
“cantine” storehouses once used to store
goods from incoming vessels and now
turned to a variety of uses. Alternatively,
enjoy an open-top bus tour, with guides
who speak a range of languages.
It should not be forgotten that Livorno
was also the home of such famous artists as the painters, Modigliani and Fattori, and the composer Mascagni whose
works are evocative of Mediterranean
sentiments and creativity. The town’s
museums include a broad spectrum
of Mediterranean history from modern works to ancient relics. The city also
boasts a fine new Aquarium that is the
second largest in Italy.

È facile imbattersi in Toscana in

in molti settori, dall’artigianato
all’arte, all’enogastronomia.
Montenero con il suo splendido Santuario che domina il
mare, Castagneto Carducci con

THE ETRUSCAN COAST
Wherever one goes in Tuscan it is possible to come across
ancient remains that pre-date Roman times. Typical of
these are the Etruscan necropoli that can be found throughout the countryside. There are even Etruscan remains in
the archipelago’s islands of Gorgona, Capraia and Isola d’Elba, the so called “Tyrrehnian Pearls” that are rich in archaeological artefacts and tourist facilities. Antique civilisations
have left their legacy in the Province of Livorno in the form
of crafts, arts, food and wine.
Other sites not to be missed are: Montenero with its splendid Sanctuary overlooking the sea, Castagneto Carducci approached by an avenue lined by century-old cypress trees,
from San Guido, Bolgheri the characteristic Tuscan village
that is the centre for world-renowned Supertuscan wines
and Castiglioncello the exclusive holiday destination frequented by many Italian stars. For somewhere quieter there
is the unspoilt bay of Populonia in the Gulf of Baratti. Populonia is also an archaeological site with a number of Etruscan necropoli. All these places are within easy reach of the
Port of Livorno.

La Porto di Livorno 2000 Srl, con un capitale sociale di 2.800.000 euro, è stata costituita nel 1997
dall’Autorità Portuale e dalla Camera di Commercio di Livorno. Gestisce una concessione pluriennale ed opera su una superficie complessiva di
110mila mq dei quali 33mila di proprietà e 77mila
in concessione.
Utilizza aree e banchine ubicate nel Porto vecchio,
nel cuore della città mentre alcuni accosti si trovano nel’area del porto commerciale, presso la Banchina Alto Fondale e presso le sponde della Darsena Toscana. Complessivamente dispone di oltre
3000 mt di banchine capaci di accogliere navi fino
a 350 mt di lunghezza e 12 mt di pescaggio.
Dal 1997 ad oggi, le crescenti esigenze del traffico
crocieristico dovute anche alla prestigiosa offerta
turistica della Toscana, hanno indotto la Porto di
Livorno 2000 in accordo con l’Autorità Portuale
ad avviare una serie di lavori destinati a cambiare
radicalmente il volto delle aree portuali. La “metamorfosi” delle aree portuali interesserà la trasformazione di antiche strutture un tempo dedicate
al traffico e alla gestione delle merci in moderni
e polifunzionali terminal o in “luoghi” dedicati ad
attività culturali e museali nonché alla promozione delle eccellenze del territorio toscano, sia nel
settore artigianale che enogastronomico.

Porto di Livorno 2000 Srl, has a company capital
of 2,800,000 euro, and was established in 1997 by
the Livorno Port Authority and Chamber of Commerce. It has a long-term concession and operations that cover 110,000m2; 33,000m2 of which it
owns outright and 77,000 m2 in concession.
It has moorings and operational areas in the old
Port, in the heart of the city, while some piers are
in the commercial port areas in the deep-water
harbour and the East pier of the Darsena Toscana.
It has a total of more than 3,000 metres of quayside capable of berthing ships with a length of up
to 350m and a 12m draft.
Due to its wealth of tourist attractions, cruise
liner traffic to Tuscany has increased steadily since
1997. This led the Porto di Livorno 2000 and the
Port Authorities to undertake a series of developments that would give the port area a radical
facelift. This “metamorphosis” has involved industrial listed buildings being transformed into modern, multipurpose terminals and areas dedicated
to cultural and museum activities, and commerce
with businesses from the crafts, food and wine
sectors of Tuscany.

COME ARRIVARE/HOW TO GET HERE
BY TRAIN
Take one of the many buses from Livorno Centrale railway station as far as Piazza
Grande. The Cruise and Passenger terminals are a 10 minute walk from this
central square. If you have too much luggage there is a shuttle service from the
Information point in Piazza Grande. Alternatively, there is a taxi rank in Piazza
Grande.
BY PLANE
The nearest airport is Pisa’s international “Galileo Galilei” (18 km from the port of
Livorno). From here visitors can take a taxi, rent a car or go to Pisa central railway
station (just a 5-minute bus ride from the airport). Livorno Centrale station is a
20 minute train journey from Pisa.
Florence’s “Amerigo Vespucci” international airport is 80 km away. Passengers
arriving here can take a train to Florence’s Santa Maria Novella railway station
and then change trains for Livorno Centrale.

Take the “Livorno” exit on the Genoa-Livorno-Rosignano A12 or Florence-PisaLivorno A11-A12 motorways (both these motorways are connected to the A1
and Brennero). Then proceed along state road S1, and follow the signs for “Porto
di Livorno” or “Imbarchi”. The port of Livorno is also connected to the S.G.C.
Firenze-Pisa-Livorno highway.

L’Aeroporto più vicino è l’Aeroporto internazionale di Pisa “Galileo Galilei” (18 km
dal porto di Livorno). Da questo punto, è possibile prendere un taxi, noleggiare
una macchina, oppure andare alla stazione di Pisa e prendere un treno (20 minuti
dalla Stazione Livorno Centrale). L’Aeroporto internazionale di Firenze “Amerigo
Vespucci” si trova ad 80 km. Treni dall’Aeroporto Vespucci fino alla Stazione di
Santa Maria Novella di Firenze e da qui per Livorno Centrale.
