How a solar energy systems works
1. Il collettore solare converte in calore la luce (ovvero la radiazione
elettromagnetica ad onde corte) che penetra al suo interno attraverso la
copertura trasparente.
1. The solar collector converts the light (short wave electro-magnetic
radiation) that penetrates the transparent glass into heat.
2. Una piastra metallica, denominata piastra captante, assorbe i raggi
solari incidenti e li converte in calore.
3. Tale piastra trasferisce il calore assorbito ad un sistema di canali
contenenti un fluido termovettore che assorbe il calore e, ad
esempio, lo trasferisce attraverso uno scambiatore di calore ad un
secondo fluido contenuto in un serbatoio di accumulo.
4. Dopo avere ceduto il calore, il fluido termovettore raffreddato
ritorna al collettore attraverso il circuito idraulico di ritorno, mentre
l’acqua ad uso sanitario, una volta riscaldata, si dispone negli strati più
alti del serbatoio di accumulo; l’ acqua più calda si accumula nella
parte superiore del serbatoio, mentre quella più fredda si trova sul
fondo del serbatoio.
Nella maggior parte dei sistemi solari termici, il fluido termovettore è
costituito da una miscela antigelo di acqua e glicole che viene fatta
circolare in un circuito chiuso. Tale sistema, nel quale il circuito solare è
separato del circuito dell’acqua potabile, viene denominato sistema a
circuito chiuso a circolazione forzata; si ha una pompa, controllata e
gestita dalla centralina elettronica, che forza la circolazione nel circuito
del collettore solare.
Ci sono anche altre tipologie di impianti, ad esempio quelli a circolazione
naturale, nei quali il fluido termovettore, sale naturalmente nella serpentina di un bollitore. In tal caso il sistema è privo della pompa, ed il bollitore
è posto all’esterno, direttamente sopra il pannello solare.
2. A metallic plate, called an absorbing plate, absorbs the sun’s rays
and converts them into heat. It also transfers the heat to a pipe circuit
which contains a thermo-vector fluid.
3. This fluid transfers the heat to a second fluid through an
exchanger. The second fluid is in a tank.
4. The so cooled fluid flows through the back pipe circuit, while
hygienic water flows to the top of the tank when it’s warm. Warm
water stratifies in the tank in accordance to the density and the temperature: warm water flows to the top of the tank, while cool water stays on
the bottom.
In most thermal solar systems, the thermo-vector fluid is an anti-freeze
fluid (glycol) mixed with water which flows in a closed circuit.
This way the fluid and the hygienic water are always separated. The
following scheme shows a kit for heating integration and hygienic warm
water production.
In this case the plant is a forced circulation plant. In fact, there is a
circulator which pumps the fluid in the solar collector pipe circuit. The
circulator is controlled by an electronic controller, and it is connected to a
temperature probe.
There are other kinds of systems, such as the natural circulation
systems, where the fluid, once heated, flows up to the boiler circuit
placed above the collector. In this case the system has no the circulation
pump and the boiler is placed outdoor, directly above the collector.

La quantità di calore che si riesce a recuperare dal sole è funzione
di molte variabili… prima tra tutte la radiazione del sole al suolo.
Giocano poi un ruolo fondamentale il tipo di collettore, la sua
inclinazione ed il suo orientamento.
The heat quantity that you can gain from the sun is the result of
many variables….the first of them is the solar radiation on the ground.
Type of collector, its tilt and azimut angles are also extremely
important.
L’ assorbimento ottimale di energia, da parte del collettore, viene
effettuato nel caso in cui esso sia orientato in direzione del sole.
The best collector absorption of energy occurs when the collector is
oriented in the direction of the sun.
L’orientamento ideale, che permette il massimo sfruttamento
dell’energia, è pertanto verso sud. L’angolo azimutale indica lo scostamento del piano del collettore rispetto al sud.
This way, the ideal orientation (the orientation that permits the
maximum exploiting of energy) is towards south.
L’angolo di inclinazione del pannello, invece, è l’angolo tra la linea
orizzontale ed il collettore.
L’inclinazione ottimale, per lo sfruttamento dell’energia, dipende dalla
latitudine in cui si trova il collettore. Nei paesi come l’Italia ed i diretti
confinanti, l’inclinazione ideale è compresa fra 30° e 45°.
Nel diagramma che segue si possono osservare i rendimenti dei
pannelli solari in funzione dell’angolo azimutale (corona esterna) e
l’angolo di inclinazione (cerchi concentrici).
The azimuth angle represents the deviation of the surface of the collector in comparison with the south.
The tilt angle, instead, is the angle between the horizontal ground line
and the collector.
The best tilt, for the energy exploitation, depends on the latitude of the
collector.
In countries such as Italy and the bordering countries, the best tilt
angle is from 30 to 40 degrees.
In the following graph you can see the efficiency of the solar collectors
in function of the azimuth angle (external crown circle) and the tilt angle
(concentrical circles).

• Il collettore presenta due attacchi nella parte superiore per il collegamento in serie. (fino a 5 collettori).

Sistema compatto.
Funzionamento semplice e sicuro.
Il sistema • composto di due componenti: il collettore solare ed
un bollitore. Il collettore • ad alte prestazioni, grazie al vetro
antiriflesso, alla piastra in TiNOX(C) e ad un alto grado di isolamento
termico. Il bollitore ha al suo interno il gruppo di circolazione e la
centralina di controllo necessari al funzionamento dellÕ impianto. Non
sono necessari altri componenti, come il vaso di espansione o la
valvola di sfiato.
Il sistema a svuotamento • un sistema a circolazione forzata, ma con
molti vantaggi:
1. Il circuito solare (dai collettori al bollitore) non • in pressione, ed •
solo parzialmente riempito di liquido;
2. Il liquido pu˜ essere semplicemente acqua e non necessita
lÕ aggiunta di antigelo
3. Il sistema • a prova di gelo, in quanto a impianto fermo nel
collettore cÕ • solo aria e non cÕ • liquido;4. Il sistema elimina il pericolo
della stagnazione, per lo stesso motivo per cui se lÕ impianto • fermo
non cÕ • liquido nel collettore;
5. Il sistema non soffre per periodi anche prolungati di inutilizzo.

Easy installation.
Only 3 steps to install the system:
1. Collector installation on the roof, with simple fixing system;
2. Circuit installation between the collector and the water tank through
small thin pipes;
3. Connection of water tank to hygienic water circuit. Pumping station,
controller and safety components are in the water tank, ready to be
connected.
Drainback system is a forced circulation system, with some advantages:
1. Non-pressure solar circuit;
2. The fluid is water, and it doesnÕ t need antifreeze;
3. When the pump is in stand by , there is no solar liquid in the collectors.
4. This way the system is safe from overheating and from frost
damage;
5. The system can be stopped for long time without any damage.

Collettore solare sottovuoto U-Type ad alto rendimento.
• I collettori solari sottovuoto sono costituiti da una serie di tubi in vetro nei quali è
alloggiata la piastra captante.
• All’esterno della piastra viene creata un’intercapedine con il vuoto, per eliminare le
dispersioni termiche per convezione (nel vuoto il calore non si propaga).
• L’efficienza del collettore solare risulta effettivamente migliorata.

DURANTE IL FUNZIONAMENTO
Quando lÕ acqua calda per il riscaldamento risulta disponibile nel
serbatoio di accumulo, essa viene prelevata come nei normali impianti.
Con opportuno dimensionamento, il bollitore Genius pu˜ essere usato
allÕ avvio dellÕ impianto di riscaldamento, anche ad alta temperatura,
sostituendo lÕ acqua fredda delle tubazioni con quella calda riscaldata
dai collettori solari ed accumulata nel serbatoio.
DURING THE OPERATION
When warm water for heating system is available in the storage tank, it
is drawed as in the normal systems.
It is also possible to use the Genius boiler at the start of the heating
systems (at high temperature too), replacing the cold water of the
pipe-line with the warm water stored in the tank and heated by solar
collectors.

Quando la temperatura dellÕ acqua di ritorno dell'impianto • superiore
a quella del bollitore, o quando l'energia nel bollitore • bassa a causa
di condizioni meteorologiche sfavorevoli, la valvola a 3 vie by-passa il
serbatoio. In questo modo la caldaia evita di scaldare inutilmente la
massa di acqua contenuta nel serbatoio di accumulo, con un notevole
risparmio energetico ed un maggiore sfruttamento dellÕ energia proveniente dai collettori solari.
DURING THE BY-PASS
When the temperature of the backflow circuit is higher than the boiler
water temperature, or when meteorological conditions are adverse, the
three-way valve by-passes the tank. This way the central-heating boiler
can avoid an unnecessary heating of such a big quantity of water in the
tank, with a considerable saving of energy and a better exploitation of
the solar collectorÕ s energy collectors.
