MAIN RESEARCH ACTIVITIES
Starting from my undergraduate studies, I have concentrated my activity on the ATLAS Experiment
at LHC. I started from the building of the Monitored Drift Chambers (BIL-MDT) of the muon
spectrometer and the writing of part of the muon tracking software. I participated on the hardware
assembly and test of these tracking chambers, designed to the muon precision momentum
measurement. I extensively participated on the development of the calibration and alignment

software, in terms of the DB design and software architecture and optimization for the Muon
detectors, in particular for the MDT and RPC (Resistive Plate Chambers). And I collaborated to the
muon data quality assessment. In the muon spectrometer context, I have been playing a major role
in all aspects of its development, gaining few relevant and crucial management positions. As Muon
DB and Software DB Coordinator I'm currently coordinating more than 20 people acting in these
items. I was even involved in several physics analysis with muons in the final states using, first, only
simulated data and then, the data collected at LHC during all the data-taking 2010-2012. I leaded
the analysis of Z+bjet, dijets flavour estimation and Hidden Valley Higgs decays in displaced jets.
The Z+bjet and flavour jet estimation (b-flavour, gluon splitting and b-tagging) involved deep
knowledge of jet reconstruction algorithm and flavour estimation techniques (heavy and light quark
jets identification). I participated in new physics searches, as in the exotics model Hidden Valley,
which foresees a Higgs boson decaying into long lived particles, which end up in displaced jets or
muons. These signatures required non-standard techniques of time-of-life measurement and jet
reconstruction. In the case of decays in displaced jets, I used the electromagnetic and hadronic
calorimeters energies and topologies for the discrimination from the standard jets. The major
background identification, defined by QCD dijets, has been estimated using data-driven technique. I
am now involved in the Higgs Standard Model properties measurements (width and future prospects,
being one of the restricted authors of the H->ZZ* papers). This item is defined in a granted project I
presented for an experienced Post. Doc in the University of Rome “La Sapienza”.I'm active member
of the following ATLAS Physics Group: Exotics, Standard Model, Btagging, Muon Combined
Performance, Higgs.
