Wenn unbestreitbar das Vorurteil der Überlegenheit ein Hindernis auf dem Wege zu der Erkenntnis ist,
muss man aber zugeben, dass das Vorurteil der Gleichheit ein noch größeres Hindernis ist, denn es
führt zu der bloßen Identifizierung des Anderen mit dem eigenen „ideellen Selbst“ (oder mit dem
eigenen Ego).

Some philosophers and theologians since Plato have claimed that the human body is a
kind of prison of the soul. Michel Foucault has recently suggested that “the soul is a
prison of the body” (Surveiller et punir, p.34). Consider some of the conceptions and
arguments that might support these opposing views.
Seit Platon haben einige Philosophen und Theologen behauptet, der menschliche Körper sei
eine Art von Gefängnis der Seele. In unseren Tagen hat Michel Foucault vorgeschlagen, dass
‘die Seele das Gefängnis des Körpers’ (Surveiller et punir, p.34) sei. Erwägen Sie einige

Das entscheidende, vom gesunden Menschenverstand gegen die Freiheit benutzte Argument
besteht darin, uns an unsere Ohnmacht zu erinnern. Weit entfernt, dass wir unsere Situation
willkürlich ändern können, scheint es sogar, dass wir nicht einmal uns selbst ändern können.
Ich bin weder „frei“, dem Schicksal meiner Klasse, meines Volkes, meiner Familie zu
entgehen, noch auch mir Einfluss oder ein Vermögen zu schaffen, noch meine
unbedeutendsten Neigungen oder meine Gewohnheiten zu besiegen.
