Dear friends,
Receive our greetings from Karungu. Once again we would like to share with you the events that
took place in the Centre through our monthly newsletter. During this month, Fr. Elphas Kolia lost
his mother. We pray to God to rest her soul in eternal peace. Thank you all.

Cari amici,
Vi salutiamo con affetto da Karungu. Ancora una volta vorremmo condividere con voi gli eventi
accaduti nel Centro Dala Kiye, attraverso la nostra newsletter mensile.
Durante questo mese, Padre Elphas Kolia ha perso sua madre. Preghiamo Dio affinchè la sua
anima resti per sempre nella pace eterna.
Vi informiamo che sono disponibili i calendari 2015 presso Pro.sa a Milano o da mia sorella Carla.
Su sito inoltre troverete il programma volontari 2015.
Vi rassicuriamo inoltre che il Kenya non corre rischio di contagio ebola.

12th October
Visitors from St. Camillus Mission Hospital in Tabaka visited the Centre. The visitors were happily
welcomed by the children and staff. The children as have been the norm entertained the visitors
with songs and dances. The excited visitors joined the children in the dance at the Centre’s
auditorium. The visitors later presented various food items to the children. The items comprised
of sugarcane, bananas and avocadoes.

I visitatori provenienti dall’Ospedale Missionario San Camillo in Tabaka hanno visitato il Dala Kiye
e sono stati felicemente accolti dai bambini e dallo staff.
I bambini, come sono soliti fare, hanno accolto i visitatori con canti e danze, coinvolgendoli con
entusiasmo alla festa che si è svolta nell’auditorium nel centro. Gli ospiti hanno poi offerto ai
bambini banane, avogado e canna da zucchero.
13th October
Representatives of St. Camillus community in Karungu and those from Kiranda parish joined
mourners and worshippers in the final send off of mama Mary Mmaitsi in Shinyalu Kakamega
County. The late Mama Mary was the mother to Fr. Elphas Kolia.

Numerosi rappresentanti della Comunità San Camillo di Karungu e della parocchia di Kiranda
hanno partecipato al funerale di Mary Mmaitsi, madre di Padre Elphas Kolia, in Shinyalu nella
Contea di Kakamega.
14th October
Caregivers, teachers, staff and students gathered at B.L Tezza Complex Secondary school
compound to pray for 2014 candidates who were going to begin their final examinations on 17 th
October 2014. Fr. David Opondo of the Camillian community in Karungu presided over the Mass.

Tutori, professori, staff e studenti si sono raccolti in preghiera, presso il complesso della Scuola
Secondaria B.L.Tezza, affinchè i candidati superino il 17 ottobre gli esami conclusivi dell’anno
scolastico 2014. Padre David Opondo della Comunità Camilliani di Karungu ha presieduto la S.
Messa.
15th October
Global Hand washing day was celebrated at Aringo Primary school. The event brought together
pupils from several primary schools, teachers, government officials and community members.
The day was used to highlight to those present the importance of hand washing with soap as a
means of fighting diseases such as diarrhoea. Pupils presented educative articles on the benefits
and techniques of hand washing with soap.

La giornata mondiale del “lavaggio delle mani” è stato celebrato alla Scuola Primaria di Aringo.
L’evento ha riunito alunni di numerose scuole primarie, professori, ufficiali governativi e membri
della Comunità.
La giornata ha avuto lo scopo di sottolineare ai presenti l’importanza del lavaggio delle mani con
il sapone, per combattere le trasmissioni di malattie. Gli alunni hanno presentato articoli
educativi sui benefici e le tecniche del lavaggio delle mani con il sapone.
17th October
Form four candidates all over the country officially started Kenya Certificate of Secondary
Education (KCSE) examinations. 64 candidates of B.L Tezza Complex Secondary were among the
students who sat for their examinations. The students were optimistic that they were going to
do well due to adequate preparation that they got from their teachers.

Gli studenti di tutto il Paese hanno iniziato gli esami di diploma della Scuola Secondaria (KCSE).
64 candidati del complesso secondario B.L. Tezza hanno partecipato all’esame di diploma.
Gli studenti hanno affrontato le prove con ottimismo grazie anche all’adeguata preparazione
ricevuta dai loro insegnanti.
22nd October
Dala Kiye and We World Onlus (Intervita) staff jointly started an exercise to assess the reading
and numeracy skills of pupils from all the 18 primary partnering schools in Karungu and Gwassi.
The exercise was done by administering questionnaires to teachers and testing the numeracy
and reading skills of the children using booklets designed by UWEZO Foundation. The foundation
carries out the exercise annually in East Africa. The exercise ran for a period of four days.

Lo staff del Dala Kiye e “We World Onlus” (Intervita) si sono uniti alle 18 Scuole Primarie partner
di Karungu e Gwassi, allo scopo di effettuare degli esercizi per valutare le capacità di leggere e
contare.
27th October
Nancy Akeyo who is the Deputy Country Director of We World Onlus (Intervita), Kenya and Sr.
Veronica Wambui the Principal St. Annes Montessori Teachers College, Nakuru visited Sori
Primary school in readiness for an interview session with pre – school teachers in the 18 primary
schools. The successful applicants will be considered for a two year in service training that
involves the partnership of Dala Kiye, We World Onlus and St. Annes College. They were
accompanied by Dala Kiye Project staff.

Nancy Akeyo rappresentante di “We World Onlus” (Intervita) Kenya e Suor Veronica Wambui
preside del College St. Annes Montessori, Nakuru hanno visitato la Scuola Primaria di Sori per
selezionare gli insegnanti degli asili nelle 18 Scuole Primarie che aderiscono al progetto “HOPE”.
I candidati selezionati saranno considerati per un tirocinio di due anni che coinvolge il
paternariato del Dala Kiye, We Worl Onlus e St. Annes College. Gli ospeiti sono stati
accompagnati dallo staff del Dala Kiye che seguono il progetto.

Caregivers, teachers, members of the religious community and pupils gathered at B.L Tezza
Complex Primary school compound for the school’s prayer day for the 2014 candidates who
were set to begin their Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examinations on 4 th
November 2014. The Holy Mass was presided over by Fr. Joshua Mege from Mbita Catholic
Parish.
30 ottobre
Tutori, Professori, Membri della Comunità Religiosa e gli alunni si sono riuniti presso il complesso
della Scuola Primaria B.L. Tezza per pregare per i candidati che dovranno gli esami per il
diploma di Terza Media (KCPE) il 4 nov. 2014.
La Santa Messa è stata celebrata dal Padre Joshua Mege dalla Parrocchia di Mbita.
