Aprii 7tn Event Focused on Business
Opportunities Between Italy and Ohio
On Aprii 7th, a day-long
event dedicated to thè topic,
"Italy and thè Midwest:
Business Connections", was
held in Cleveland at thè Union
Club and organized by thè
Consulate of Italy in Detroit
and Honorary Vice Consulate
of Italy in Cleveland, in partnership with thè NOIA Foundation, thè Cleveland Council
on World Affairs and thè City
of Cleveland - Office of thè
Mayor, Cleveland.
The work sessions began
with thè presentations from
thè following speakers: Laura
Soave, Head of FIAT Brand,
N.A.; Mauro Pino, Manager,
Chrysler Toledo Plants; Peter
Spitalieri, President & CEO of
PASCO; Bart Pascoli from thè
Italian Trade Commission in
Chicago and Marco Capuano,
International Business Consultant representing Italian
business interests in thè Cincinnati area.
The second portion of
thè event was centered on
thè Ambassador of Italy
to thè U.S.A., H.E. Giulio
Terzi's address an audience
of approximately 200, which
included a delegation from thè
City of Vicenza, Italy - municipality with a friendship pact
with thè City of Cleveland,
headed by Mayor Achille
Variati. Prior to his speech,
Ambassador Terzi, consigned
thè award of Knight in thè
Order of thè Star of Italian
Solidarity to thè Mayor of
Cleveland, Frank Jackson,
recently conferred upon him
for his significant efforts over
thè years to strengthen thè
ties of friendship and commerce with Italy. At thè end
of his presentation and subsequent to questions fielded
from thè audience, Ambassador Terzi met with thè Governor of Ohio, John Kasich,
who traveled from Columbus
specifically for this event.
The private meeting with
Kasich lasted approximately
45 minutes. After having
touched upon thè main
subject of recent international
events, they examined Opportunities to strengthen thè
presente of Italian companies
in Ohio, in particular in thè
automotive sector.
The Ambassador then
met with Dr. Paola Morsiani,
Curator of thè Cleveland
Museum of Art, in order to
explore thè ~opportunity to
exhibit thè project, "Percorsi
Italiani", in that city as well.
As Ambassador Terzi left
thè event venue, he had thè
opportunity to view two "FIAT
500" automobiles, which were
aptly positioned in order
to maximize thè synergy of
thè event and appropriately
promote a "Made in Italy"
produci.
Ambassador Terzi then
went to City Hall, which was
flying thè Italian flag as a
further indication of thè dose
ties which have developed
over these years between Italy
and thè City of Cleveland.
While being welcomed by
several television reporting
crews, he met with Mayor
Jackson, Mayor Variati and
thè President of Cleveland
State
University,
Ronald

I lavori sono stati aperti
da una sessione alla quale
partecipavano come relatori

della comunità d'affari italiani
di Cincinnati.
La seconda parte dell'evento
era incentrata sull'intervento
dell'Ambasciatore d'Italia negliStati Uniti, S.E. Giulio Terzi,
presentato davanti a circa 200
ospiti tra i quali si ricordano
in particolare la delegazione
della città di Vicenza - località
legata da un patto di amicizia
con Cleveland -, guidata dal
Sindaco Achille Variati. Prima
della lettura del suo discorso,
l'Ambasciatore Terzi ha consegnato al Sindaco della città di
Cleveland, Frank Jackson, le
insegne dell'onorificenza di
Cavaliere OSSI, recentemente
conferitagli per l'importante
lavoro da lui svolto in questi
anni per consolidare i rapporti
di amicizia ed i legami commerciali con ritalia.Al termine
della sua presentazione e
dopo avere risposto ad alcune
domande del pubblico, l'ambasciatore Terzi ha incontrato il
Governatore dell'Ohio, John
Kasick, appositamente giunto
dalla capitale, Columbus.
Il colloquio di circa 45
minuti con Kasick si è svolto
a margine dell'evento. Dopo
avere trattato le tematiche
principali dell'attualità intemazionale, sono state esaminate le
opportunità di rafforzamento
della presenza delle nostre
aziende in Ohio, in particolare
nel settore autotomotive.
L'ambasciatore ha quindi
avuto un colloquio con la dottoressa Paola Morsiani, curatrice del Museo di Cleveland,
per esaminare le opportunità di
presentare anche nel museo di
quella città il progetto " Percorsi Italiani".
Uscendo dal luogo in cui
si era svolto l'evento l'Ambasciatore Terzi ha potuto
esaminare
due
automobili
"FIAT 500",
appositamente
posizionate in modo da utilizzare sinergicamente l'evento
anche per promuovere opportunamente un prodotto del
"Made in Italy"
L'ambasciatore Terzi si
è poi recato nella sede municipale, sul cui tetto sventolava
anche il Tricolore, come ulteriore segnale dello strettissimo legame sviluppato in
questi anni tra l'Italia e la città
di Cleveland. Accolto da alcune
troupe televisive egli ha incontrato il Sindaco Jackson, il
Sindaco Variati ed il presidente
della Cleveland State University, Ronald Berkman. «
