Viktor RUD Baritone The Ukrainian baritone Viktor Rud initially studied conducting at the Tchaikovsky Academy of Music in his native Kiev before moving to London to pursue his vocal studies at the Royal Academy of Music, completing his studies at the National Opera Studio in Kiev. He is the recipient of several awards including the Marilyn Horne Foundation prize, the William Matheus Sullivan prize, the International Mozart Competition prize and the Opera Rara Bel Canto Prize. He is currently in his fourth season as a member of the ensemble of the State Opera in Hamburg where he takes part in three new productions singing Dandini in “Cenerentola”; Alex Duval in the European première of Brett Dean’s “Bliss” and Graf Luna in Pfitzner’s “Palestrina”, further he can be heard in Hamburg as Silvio, Schaunard, Morales, Poeta in "Turco in Italia" and Count in “Nozze di Figaro”. As a member of the Berlin State Opera Studio (founded by Daniel Barenboim), Viktor appeared as Silvano in "Ballo in maschera", as Mr. Astley in Prokofiev’s “The Gambler” with Mo. Barenboim, as Morales in “Carmen", as Mamma Agata in "Viva la Mamma” and in “Eugen Onegin”. He was a member of the Montblanc Young Singers project at the Salzburg Festival and covered Mercutio in “Roméo et Juliette” and Papageno, and he sang Papageno at Royal Academy of Music in London with Sir Colin Davis. Viktor also appeared as Mr. Astley in Prokofiev’s “The Gambler” at Scala Milano and as Don Fernando in "Fidelio" with Daniel Barenboim in a European tour including the Proms at the Royal Albert Hall, London, the Salzburg Festival and the Teatro Maestranza, Seville. He sang Dandini, Belcore, Harlekin, Silvio, Falke, Gugliemo in "Cosi fan tutte", Figaro in “Barbiere di Siviglia”, Graf Luna in "Palestrina" and Count in "Nozze di Figaro" at State Opera Hamburg. Last contracts till 2016 include “Boheme” in Graz and in Leipzig, Gugliemo in Hannover, " Herr Fluth in "Lustige Weiber von Windsor" at Festival Klosterneuburg / Vienna, "Viva la Mamma" in Dresden, he was heard at Staatsoper Hamburg as Falke, Gugliemo, Schaunard, Fernando in Händels "Almira", Ned Keene in "Peter Grimes" and in "Battaglia di Legnano" and at Festival of Alte Musik in Innsbruck "Almira". 2014/15 he sang in Hamburg the new productions "La belle Helene" Agamemnon and "La Fanciulla del West" as well as Dandini, Schaunard, Morales, "Almira" and "Butterfly", 2015/16 he will be heard in Hamburg as Kuligin, Schaunard, Bello in "Fanciulla", Count in "Nozze di Figaro", Figaro in "Barbiere di Siviglia", Poeta in "Turco in Italia", Hiroto in "Stilles Meer" and as Falke. Viktor regularly appears in concerts and oratorio with his repertoire including Orff’s “Carmina Burana” and Mendelssohn’s “Elijah” in venues including the Royal Albert Hall, London and Philharmonic Hall, Berlin.
