Marconi2 1School of Advanced Studies, Università di Camerino Placement, Università di Camerino 3American MediaCompass 2Ufficio American MediaCompass ♦ Introduction The "Virtual Job Hunt“ platform is the training section of the European project "Bio skills in motion save the world" - EARTH - Leonardo Da Vinci. The project "Bio skills in motion save the world" – EARTH focuses on career guidance and job placement trough internship in Europe. The project aimed to provide internship opportunities in companies abroad for 117 graduates coming form the Universities situated in the Marche Region. The internship lasts 3 months and it is preceded by a preparatory part. The University of Camerino was responsible for the preparatory part in Italy with the project "Virtual Job Hunt" developing the content entirely in English and their distribution in e-learning. . ♦ Methodology and tools The e-learning part of the project involved the following steps: 1)"Basic English" Course (Fig. 1) is structured to allow candidates to refresh their language skills before starting the “Job Hunt training programme” and before starting the contacts with the companies abroad that will be hosting them during the staying abroad. The e-learning combined with multimedia tool allow a strong interactive use of the course. 2) “Job Hunt”Course (Fig. 2): The course is organized around a virtual character depicting a graduate engaged in looking for a job. The common thread is the set of problems that the character is facing and the corresponding solutions. Scenes and scenarios are set in the form of dialogues between the graduate and his friends who provide tips and advice to carry on the active job search. The users (Leonardo candidates) find themselves surrounded in a virtual reality expressed in a language very close to them, with elements of the multimedia animations that make a lively and interactive learning environment. The course faces in detail : basic elements of job search, the importance of networking and the major social networks on the Internet, job search on the internet, preparing a cover letter, a curriculum vitae and a letter of recommendation, the job interview. Once designed learning materials, the students make their letter and their curriculum vitae, while on the platform appears also the scheme for an evaluation by the consultant. Fig.1. Interface Basic English course 3) Video conferencing using Skype. At the end of the training section with the virtual platform, the software plans a online simulation of a job interview with an H.R. consultant (from USA). The interview lasts 15 minutes. The consultant mange the interview based on the letter and curriculum vitae that have been delivered on the platform before the interview during the virtual training section. The Basic English and Job Hunt were provided online through the e-learing open source platform Moodle [1] used by the University of Camerino, visit the web-www.elearning unicam.it Concerning the technical aspects of the development for contents a simplified html language has been used for text, software for 3D animated for dialogues accompanied by subtitles and mp3 for audio. All the aspects/prts were assembled in Moodle using the SCORM standard [2]. The interface is made in Flash, users are presented with all the resources available, in order to make the course highly interactive and multimedia. ♦ Results Fig.2. The data refer to a sample of 47 users who responded to the evaluation questionnaires on the quality of the training project. The conclusions that are obtained from the analysis of the responses generally indicate the successful training of students that become evident from the significant increase in skills and knowledge aimed at finding a job in the international arena. In particular, there was a significant effect of the "Job Hunt“ course in improving the skills of students on the topics of curriculum vitae, cover letter and job interview.
