The story of ZAFFERANO has its beginnings in
2001 from the long experience of Federico de
Majo, businessman and designer, who has worked
in the family business on the island of Murano, in
the field of blown and artistic glass since the Seventies.
ZAFFERANO stems from Federico de Majo’s profound awareness of the secrets of glass shaping and
experience in the creation of objects of design that
will result in multifarious collections of wine-tasting
glasses, art glasses, tableware accessories, lighting
fixtures and decorative accessories.
The company aims at offering both the private and
hospitality environments a complete range of products, in order to provide the table and the interior
decoration with a strong aesthetic style.
Specifically selected materials, researched and innovative technical shapes - such as the patented collection Esperienze - reveal a strong focus on design
and product research.

ZAFFERANO nasce nel 2001 da un’idea di Federico de Majo, la cui storia ha inizio nella vetreria muranese di famiglia. È qui che a metà degli
anni Settanta, inizia a dedicarsi con passione al
vetro soffiato ed artistico. Partendo così da una
profonda conoscenza dei segreti della lavorazione del vetro, l’imprenditore e designer, dà
vita a collezioni di calici da degustazione, bicchieri
artistici, accessori per la tavola, lampade e complementi. L’obiettivo dichiarato è di offrire una
proposta completa rivolta tanto agli ambienti privati quanto alle strutture destinate all’accoglienza
e all’ospitalità, per conferire all’arredo della tavola
e degli interni una forte connotazione estetica.

Cominciò tutto a Venezia.
Dalla terrazza della nonna, nella mansarda di fondamenta Ormesini, accedevo in una bassa soffitta e
giocavo a nascondermi pensando di essere inseguito. Piccole emozioni e brividi di un bambino.
Fu lì la scoperta. Vetro lucente, vero splendore, primo bagliore, primo stupore. Eterno amore.
Un primo frammento conservato gelosamente, icona di un desiderio. Che non ha fine. Da lì son partito…
Ho cercato e trovato, nelle strade delle città, dai piccoli rigattieri di provincia, nelle case di campagna, da
raffinati antiquari.
Vi offro questa mia ricerca, questa scelta di colori, questo che, come avete capito, è un sogno, una fantasia,
una grande passione.
It all began in Venice.
From my grandmother’s terrace, in the attic of the Ormesini street, I passed into a low-ceilinged garret and
played at hiding myself, pretending that I had been followed. Emotions and thrills of a childhood. And that
was where I made the discovery. Brilliant glass, in all its splendour, the first glow, me seized with wonder
for the first time. Eternal love. A single fragment, jealously preserved, the icon of an endless desire. That’s
where I started from…
I searched and found, in the streets of the towns, among small junk dealers, in old country houses, refined
antique shops.
I offer you the fruits of my research, this choice of colours - this which, as you have discerned, is but a
dream, a fantasy, a magnificent passion.

Questa novità nel proporre le collezioni nasce dall’osservazione del reale. Come la realtà in cui viviamo è il risultato
di una commistione di elementi che incessantemente interagiscono tra loro in nuove combinazioni, così le nostre
nuove proposte di collezioni traducono la contemporaneità del vivere quotidiano. Non più solo varietà di forme e
colori nelle differenti linee di prodotto, quindi, ma un passo che va oltre.

This novel idea in proposing the collections arises from observing reality. Just as the reality in which we live is the
result of an intermingling of elements that incessantly interact with each other in ever-changing combinations, so
our new proposals of collections interpret the contemporaneity of our day-to-day life. No longer just varieties of
shapes and colours in the different product lines, then, but one step further, a step beyond.

La progettazione è da sempre alla base della creazione dei prodotti Zafferano. Per noi il design non è soltanto originalità e attenzione alla forma. È anche gusto per la bellezza formale. Nelle collezioni di questo nuovo catalogo tutti questi
elementi, combinati assieme, si arricchiscono di un ulteriore valore: il gusto per la presentazione.
La collezione “Tue„ nasce per offrire un prodotto esteticamente divertente e funzionale con cui poter valorizzare la
materia prima, in altre parole, uno strumento utile per il food design.
Per noi, professionisti del colore in tavola, la continua sfida è quella di fornire il miglior prodotto per una presentazione
del cibo seducente e ricca di suggestioni.
Colour and design have become an indissoluble pair in the kitchen and at the table. Planning and design have always
formed the basis of the creation of Zafferano products. For us design is not only originality and an eye for shape. It is
also about having taste for formal beauty. In the collections of this new catalogue all these elements combined together
are enriched with another quintessential feature – the taste for presentation.
The “Tue„ collection was designed to offer a product that is fun and yet functional at the same time, with which to
bring the best out of the raw material – in other words, a useful instrument for food design.
For us, who are professionals in terms of bringing colour to the table, the constant challenge is that of creating the
product that best presents food seductively, while being rich in suggestiveness.
