An increase in the number of fellowships could increase the number of places available globally for the competition. Otherwise, lack of agreements between the entities, both private and public, in presenting their fellowship awards in time, could result in a reduction in the number of competition places. Art. 2 (Admission requirements for Italian candidates) The candidates who possess a degree (obtained before the D.M. 509/99 became effective), a specialist degree (which means after the D.M. 509/99 became effective) or an equivalent one awarded in a foreign university, can apply for the research Doctorate course. Those candidates who should graduate within the date set for the first scheduled entrance exam can also submit the admission request. Art. 3 (Admission applications for all candidates) In order to take part in the entrance examination, Italian and foreign candidates, with the exception of those who achieved the academic degree abroad, have to apply exclusively via internet, or by using the Università degli Studi di Milano-Bicocca self-service terminals SIFA. This will be kept as a receipt of their registration. For every application submitted, a sum of € 40,00 has to be paid within the expiry date of the announcement. Payments have to be done using a post paying-in slip registered to: ”Università degli Studi di Milano-Bicocca, Servizio Tesoreria, Piazza dell’Ateneo Nuovo, 1 – 20126 Milano”. The postal account number is: 43930205. Please write as the cause of payment: “Contributo per la partecipazione al concorso Dotorato in ...”. Applications are complete only if the receipt of the payment is sent by fax to Ufficio Dottorati di Ricerca della Segreteria Studenti. (Fax num. 02/6448.6289). In case of a candidate pays the sum of € 40,00 for the application and doesn’t take the entrance examination, no refund will be done to him/her. The candidates who have a foreign degree have to submit their application as per Art. 5 , using the application form enclosed. Candidates with personal handicaps can obtain, according to the law n.104/92 and modified by the law n.17/99, additional time and/or help during the entrance exams. It is therefore necessary that these candidates, along with their application form, submit medical documents certifying their invalidity. These have to be sent within the expiry date of the announcement to Ufficio Dottorati di Ricerca della Segreteria Studenti piazza dell’Ateneo Nuovo, 1 - 20126 Milano. According to the art. 75 of D.P.R. n. 445/2000, if, after checking, the administration finds out false declarations on the part of the candidate, the applicant will automatically lose access to these benefits. The administration department of the university accepts no responsibility for the loss of correspondence caused by inaccurate personal details regarding residence for the delivery of mail, nor for missing or late delivery caused by address changes of candidates or by postal mistakes. Art. 4 (Entrance examinations) The candidates will take an entrance examination, consisting in one written and one oral exam. These exams have the aim to check the candidates’ knowledge, skill and competence for scientific research. During the oral exam, candidates’ knowledge of a foreign language will be tested, as well, according to the doctorate course chosen. No other means but this will be used to notify the candidates the date and the place of the entrance examination. In order to be admitted to the entrance examinations, the candidates have to produce a fully up-to-date document. Passport, ID card or driving licence will be accepted. 8 Art. 5 (Rules for foreign candidates and for those who have a degree taken abroad) The candidates who have a foreign degree have to submit their application using the application form enclosed to this announcement. If the candidate has a foreign degree already declared equivalent to an Italian one, he/she has to write the University name and the date of the ordinance attesting the equivalence. If the candidate has a degree which has not been accredited in Italy yet, he/she has to fill in the part of the application form regarding the request of the equivalence. The candidate has also to enclose a notarized copy of the degree, a notarized Italian translation of the degree certified by authorities of the country that issued the degree, a value declaration by the Italian Embassy or Consulate, any and all the documents necessary for the equivalence declaration. As per Art. 26, L. n. 189 of 30/07/02, European Community (EC) and non-EC citizens living regularly in Italy have to submit the appliation form and other documents personally at the Ufficio Studenti Stranieri della Segreteria Studenti, Via Tecmolo, 4 – 20126 Milano or send them by registered letter within the prescribed date as per Art. 2 of this announcement, enclosing the receipt of payment of € 40,00. Candidates living abroad can pay the fee of € 40,00 after that time but have to bring the receipt of the payment the same day of the entrance examination. The non-EC citizens living abroad have to submit the application form and documents to the Italian Embassy or Consulate of their country, which will then transfer them to the University of MilanoBicocca within the expiry date for sending in the applications. Documents can be either in Italian or in English. Official douments have to include a notarized (or equivalent) Italian translation. The non-EC citizens living abroad who succesfully pass the entrance examination, can be enrolled in excess/addition on the Doctorate course, only if they have a fellowship which could cover the entire length of the course, of an amount not lower than that mentioned in Art. 1, comma 1, letter a) of law 3/08/1998, n. 315, attested by a written guarantee released by the Italian or foreign Authority, Institution or Foundation. Non-EC candidates will have to bring a residence permit or a consular visa in order to be enrolled on the Doctorate course. Art. 6 (Committees of examiners) The committees for entrance examinations shall be composed and selected in compliance with the law. Art. 7 (Classification and rules of enrolment) Candidates will be admitted to the course on the basis of a merit classification until the number of places available for each Doctorate course has been completed. Successfull candidates will receive a written communication of their eligibility for the course from the Ufficio Dottorati di Ricerca della Segreteria Studenti. Since then, they will have 15 days to enroll. If they fail to do so, they will lose thir eligibility and another person will take their place, according to the aforementioned priority criteria. 9 The same procedure will be adopted if an admitted student withdraws from the course within 3 months from its beginning. In the case of withdrawal, the student has to give back the money already received for the fellowship (if he/she has one). Successfull candidates in more than one Doctorate course entrance examination, have to choose only one Doctorate course. Successfull candidates have to go to Ufficio Dottorati di Ricerca of Segreteria Studenti, Via Temolo, 1 – 20126 Milano - Ed U21 (Monday to Friday, from 09.00 to 12.00 a.m.) within 15 days from the day after they receive the letter, with the following documents: The application form to enroll on the first year of the Doctorate course; The receipt of payment as per Art. 9; N. 1 passport-quality photo. Art. 8 (Fellowships) A fellowship is conferred to Italian candidates and to EC and non-EC candidates regularly living in Italy as per art. 26 L. 189 del 30/07/02, with an annual personal income not higher than € 10.500,00, on the basis of the classification position. For the academic year 2006/2007 the annual gross amount of the fellowship is € 10.561,54 (6,07% of it will be deducted for INPS social security payment under Italian law). According to art. 5 of “Regolamento dei corsi di Dottorato di Ricerca dell’Università degli Sttudi di Milano-Bicocca”, the amount of the fellowship will be increased by 50% during any period spent abroad for doctoral study and research. Fellowships cannot be accumulated with other fellowships, with the exception ot those given by Italian or foreign institution in order to integrate training or research with periods abroad. State employees admitted to the course, who are on leave and receive no grant funding will keep the same salary from their public administration empoyer. Art. 9 (Fees and contributions) Ph.D students admitted to the course who are not fellowship holders, have to pay a tuition. For the academic year 2006/2007 the total amount of it is € 875,00. The fee has to be paid in 2 instalments, with the following schedule: • • first instalment (€ 625,00) at enrolment; second instalment (€ 250,00) by 15/05/2007. An insurance premium against injury of € 10,50 for academic year 2006/2007 has to be paid by all Ph.D students. For those who do not hold a fellowship, it is included in the first instalment. For the fellowship holders, it will be deducted from the fellowship first payment.
