E noi di sogni ne abbiamo fatti in questi anni. Nel 2009 abbiamo
presentato sul mercato sette modelli di tende da sole, sfidando la
sorte e la congiuntura e lottando per rendere sempre più grande
il nostro sogno. Nel 2012 abbiamo aggiunto la nuova linea di
tende a caduta riscuotendo apprezzamenti e riscontri di mercato.
Siamo riusciti ad ottenere 9 premi internazionali di design a
livello di azienda e di prodotto. Abbiamo allargato il mercato oltre
l’Europa, portando le nostre tende in Asia, Australia e Stati Uniti.

challenged the fate of economic trends and have striven to make
our dreams bigger.
In 2012 we successfully launched a new line of drop awnings to
an overwhelming industry response, resulting in 9 international
design awards from both a company and product level.
We have successfully expanded our markets beyond Europe,
reaching Asia, Australia and the US.

Abbiamo appena introdotto tre nuove tende a bracci, progettate
ascoltando il mercato, le richieste degli installatori e degli
utilizzatori. E guardiamo al futuro progettando nuovi sistemi
per la schermatura solare per ampliare la nostra gamma. Tutto
questo siglando accordi e partnership per fornire un servizio ed
un prodotto migliore, per rendere la nostra azienda più forte ed i
nostri client orgogliosi di averci scelto.
Yet we still remain hungry and foolish!
We have recently introduced three new models of retractable
arm awnings, that have been developed in close consultation
with our clients, based on their needs and feedback. With a view
to the future we continue designing new sun shading systems to
increase our range. We have developed new partnerships to be
able to offer better service and products, to make our company
grow stronger and our clients proud to work together.

Nel mercato della protezione solare mancavano delle tende
di design. Tende innovative nella forma e nella tecnica. Tende
che si integrassero con l’architettura sia classica che moderna.
Oggetti d’arredo da guardare ed ammirare.
Volevamo creare tende semplici da usare ma tecnologicamente
avanzate, che utilizzassero materiali di altissima qualità ma che
fossero accessibili a tutti.
Volevamo tende Made in Italy, brevettate nel design e nella
tecnologia, certificate nella qualità da enti internazionali.
Per fare tutto ciò serviva un’azienda nuova, giovane, dinamica,
che coniugasse collaboratori e partner di grande esperienza con
idee innovative. Avevamo un sogno. L’abbiamo realizzato.
In the sun shading market something was missing;
designer awnings with innovative style and technique.
Fine furnishing objects to admire visually and
functionally. Our objective was to create awnings
that are architecturally designed, technologically
advanced, simple to use, and entirely Made in Italy
with international certification.
To bring this to fruition, a new company, young and
dynamic, with skill and experience, was formed...
ShadeLAB.
We had an idea. It became reality.

di misurarci e di crescere a livello internazionale, di confrontarci
con altri professionisti del design a livello mondiale e di trovare
nuovi sbocchi di mercato diversi da quelli da tradizionali.
Ma soprattutto di offrire ai nostri clienti un motivo in più per
scegliere i prodotti ShadeLAB.
Dopo 9 premi conseguiti in 5 anni però non ci fermiamo:
vogliamo continuare a metterci in gioco e a valorizzare ancor

Come nascono le idee?
Le tende ShadeLAB sono il risultato di un percorso che nasce
da idee assolutamente innovative. Un percorso che coinvolge
quotidianamente decine di soggetti, interni ed esterni all’azienda,
ognuno impegnato a portare il proprio contributo. Un grande
architetto e designer che modella concetti e forme. Un
ufficio tecnico interno che sviluppa le intuizioni artistiche e le
trasforma in oggetti tecnologicamente impeccabili e affidabili.
La progettazione in 3D e la prototipazione rapida in resina che
permettono le verifiche strutturali ed estetiche.
How do ideas arise?
ShadeLAB awnings are the result of a process that
arise from unique and innovative ideas. A process
that involves numerous elements, both inside and
outside the company, all contributing to the end
result. A great architect and designer who models
forms and concepts. A technical department that
develops the artistic insights and turn them into
technologically brilliant and reliable products.

Un processo produttivo che utilizza l’eccellenza in ogni sua
fase, dallo stampaggio delle materie plastiche e dell’alluminio
alle lavorazioni dell’acciaio inox, dall’estrusione dei profili alla
verniciatura. Un laboratorio di test gestito internamente che
certifica sotto l’egida del TÜV Rheinland l’assoluta qualità di ogni
singolo componente e che permette di assemblare e portare sul
mercato solo prodotti lungamente testati.

A production process involving excellence at all
stages: from aluminium and moulding to stainless
steel manufacturing; from the extrusion of profiles to
powder coating. An internal laboratory to carry out
all the tests, where the quality of each component is
certified by TÜV Rheinland and where products are
long tested before being introduced on the market.
For ShadeLAB innovation also involves careful
management of customer service. In pre sales by
offering solutions, integrating projects and customizing
awnings to every application. In the after sales,
supported by a 5 year guarantee on all products
and qualified technical assistance. Communication
is innovation: together with professionals in this
field, ShadeLAB is able to propose customized

Dopo la laurea in Architettura nel 1978,
consegue il diploma di Design Industriale al
Politecnico di Milano nel 1979. Si forma con
maestri del design italiano come Castiglioni
e Zanuso e si distingue in numerosi concorsi
internazionali tra i quali il Young & Design Award
e il Reddot Design Award.
Nell’ambito del design industriale ha collaborato
con molte delle più prestigiose aziende di
design quali Artemide, Busnelli, Martex,
Meson’s, Permasteelisa, Poliform, Varaschin,
Zanotta. Collabora con ShadeLAB per lo
sviluppo di nuove tipologie di tende da sole che,
attraverso il design, rispondano alle crescenti
esigenze architettoniche dell’arredo esterno sia
residenziale che urbano.

After graduating in architecture in 1978,
Mario Mazzer received his Diploma in Industrial
Design at Politecnico di Milano in 1979. He
gained experience working with leaders in
Italian design, such as Achille Castiglioni and
Marco Zanuso. He has since been awarded with
an assortment of prizes, such as the Young &
Design Award and the Red dot Design Award.
In the field of industrial design he has worked
for some of the most important Italian design
companies such as Artemide, Busnelli, Martex,
Meson’s, Permasteelisa, Poliform, Varaschin
and Zanotta. Working closely with ShadeLAB,
Mario continues to develop new concepts of
awnings that, through design, can meet the
growing architectural needs in the home and
urban outdoor décor.

installazioni personalizzate in forme e colori.

KUMO can reach a 6 m width with a 3,15 m projection. It is
a total cassette that guarantees a hermetic closure of the
awning in any width and projection, thanks to the particular
shape of the terminal bar, too. This preserves the fabric and

ceiling. Since its particular hanging system hides the wall fixing

It is a furnishing object that matches aesthetic and
functionality: SHAN, always groundbreaking.
The D.T.S. system (Dynamic Tipping System) allows the
tipping of the support when the awning is retracting,
maintaining a perfect closure of the cassette. The special
gasket along the whole terminal profile makes the awning
watertight and ensures a silent closure. A single section
is up to 7 m with and can reach a 4,15 m projection; it
can be coupled up to 10 m with one single fabric.

ILIOS is available in 4 different versions to better suit
private and commercial applications: with or without box,
with steel cable guides or with tensioned arms. ShadeLAB
vocation for research and testing has enabled it to engineer
a unique solution in the market, particularly apt for WING
and RAY versions: a terminal bar that perfectly integrates
inside the box, always enabling a hermetic closure. ILIOS
can be installed on wall and ceiling and offers a great
advantage: maintenance and change of fabric/motor can
be carried out without uninstalling the awning. Thanks to

La mia fotografia, vuole essere espressione del mio
modo di sentire, rimanda continuamente al mio
vissuto. Non solo utilizzo spazi e oggetti conosciuti
ma il corpo stesso. Lavorare con l’autoritratto
porta la persona ad un coinvolgimento con l’atto
del fotografare che va ben oltre lo scatto, si crea
una specie di relazione tra se stessi, il luogo e la
macchina fotografica che la cattura. Non so cosa
apparirà, certo posso immaginarlo ma vederlo è
sempre una scoperta: c’è lo stupore ogni volta.
My photography wants to be expression of my feelings
and constantly takes me back to my past. I not only
use known spaces and objects, but my own body.
Working with self-portrait leads the photographer
to the involvement with the act of photographing,
going well beyond the shot; it’s a sort of relationship
between oneself, the place and the camera catching
it. I don’t know what will appear; of course i can
imagine it, but when I see it it’s always a discovery:
every time is amazement.
L’autoritratto mi permette di entrare, di dialogare
con gli spazi, di giocare con il tempo, di avere uno
sguardo doppio. Dentro e fuori l’immagine.
The self-portrait enables me to enter and talk with
spaces; to play with time, to have a double look. Inside
and outside the image.
Nei miei lavori è presente il tema della leggerezza
come reazione al peso del vivere, come libertà da
ogni forma di costrizione. Spesso ho tolto peso al
mio corpo, ho scelto braccia o gambe o solo capelli
per parlare di ciò che c’è dentro, che non si vede.
My works include the theme of lightness as opposed
to the weight of living, as freedom from any form
of restraint. I often took off weight form my body; I
choose legs or arms or only hair to convey what is
inside and one doesn’t see.
Come accade con l’ombra, rappresentazione di

imagined body, present but absence.

Martinelli gira le città con uno schermo e
un flash che, azionato inavvertitamente dal
passante, gli soffia l’ombra sul telo che la
trattiene a lungo staccata dai movimenti
del corpo. È l’incontro con l’ombra. L’ombra
emancipata offre un’immagine inattesa che
diventa in pochi istanti scoperta di un altro
se stesso. Di quel sé spesso solo e anonimo,
trascinato in mezzo agli altri nel perpetuo
affrettarsi dove il quotidiano sfugge velocemente
e dove resta solo ciò che lascia immagine.
L’installazione dà nuova immagine alla cosa
più sfuggente dell’uomo - la sua ombra fermata in un attimo qualunque ma irripetibile
dell’esistenza, per lasciarla poi svanire
lentamente sotto gli occhi dello spettatore,
annuncio della scomparsa del corpo consunto
dalla sua stessa evaporazione.
La scoperta dell’immagine inattesa di sé e
l’evento del suo lento venir meno sono l’oggetto
dell’operazione incontro con l’ombra e la fonte
della sua forza emozionale.
Artist Mario Martinelli travels the world carrying a
big piece of cloth and a flash which he puts in front
of the cloth. A passer-by would accidentally activate
the flash lighting the cloth and blowing their
shadow on it. The shadow, detached from the body,
remains for some time on the still enlighten cloth.
This is what the “meeting the shadow” consists in.
The shadow, which has been emancipated from the
body, projects a new image of itself. It becomes a
dazzled discovery of a new, other “self”. Such other
“self” is the one who is dragged into the relentless
rhythm of today’s life, where days pass by very
quickly and what’s left is only the image of things.
Martinelli’s installations give new shape to the
most eluding feature of mankind, that is a human
shadow caught in a one-time but unique moment of
existence. Such shadow is then released slowly and
thereby symbolizes the disappearance of a human
body worn out by its own evaporation.
Martinelli’s art aims at revealing the unexpected
imagine of oneself and its slowly fading away: such
is the “meeting the shadow” operation and the
source of its emotional strength.
