WISDOM

In essa (Sapienza) c'è uno spirito intelligente,
santo, unico, molteplice, sottile, mobile, perspicace,
senza macchia, terso, inoffensivo, amante del bene,
acuto, irresistibile, benefico, amante dell'uomo,
immutabile, fermo, senza preoccupazioni,
onnipotente, onniveggente e che penetra tutti gli
spiriti intelligenti, puri e sottilissimi. (Sap 7, 22-23)
because Wisdom, who designed them all, taught
me. In her is a spirit that is intelligent, saintly,
unique, manifold, subtle, active, concise, pure
and lucid. It cannot corrupt, loves what is good
and nothing can restrain it; it is beneficent,
loving humankind, steadfast, dependable, calm
though almighty. It sees everything and
penetrates all spirits, however intelligent, subtle
and pure they may be.(Wis 7, 22-23)
La sapienza è più mobile di ogni moto e per la sua
purezza pervade e penetra in ogni cosa. E' esalazione
della potenza di Dio, effluvio puro della gloria
dell'Onnipotente; per questo nulla d'impuro cade su
di essa. (Sap 7, 24-25)

tersissimo dell'attività di Dio e immagine
della sua bontà. Pur essendo unica, può
tutto, restando in se stessa, rinnova ogni
cosa e attraverso le generazioni, entrando
nelle anime sante, prepara gli amici di Dio

Essa infatti inizia alla scienza di Dio e sceglie le sue opere. Se la ricchezza è un bene
desiderabile in vita, che cos'è più ricco della sapienza, la quale tutto produce? Se
l'intelligenza opera, chi, tra gli esseri, più di essa è artefice? Se qualcuno ama la giustizia, i
suoi frutti sono le virtù: essa infatti insegna temperanza e prudenza, giustizia e fortezza,
delle quali nulla è più utile agli uomini nella vita .(Sap.8,4-7)

Wisdom who is the active
cause of everything? If the
intellect shows itself in action,
still more does she who
fashions everything. If you
love righteousness, every
virtue is the fruit of her labor,
for she teaches temperance,
prudence, justice, fortitude all
that is most valuable in life.

Se qualcuno brama una vasta esperienza,
essa conosce le cose passate e indovina quelle
future, è esperta nei detti difficili
e nell'interpretazione degli enigmi, prevede
segni e prodigi e l'esito dei momenti e dei
tempi. Ho deciso, dunque, di prenderla per
compagna della vita, sapendo che mi sarà
consigliera di bene e consolatrice nelle
preoccupazioni e nel dolore. (Sap. 8, 8-9)
If someone is eager for experience, she
knows what took place in the past and
forecasts the future. She has the art of
interpretation and knows how to solve
riddles, she foresees signs and wonders,
the end of ages and eras. This is why I
decided to have her as companion for
life, knowing she would be a wise
counselor and encourage me in times of
worry and distress.(Wis. 8, 8-9)
