Comenius 1.1 “Responsible citizens through scientific knowledge” 2009/10 Project “Clean Energy” Energia pulita 2009-10 I.P.S. “ F.S.CABRINI” PROJECT “ NONTISCORDARDIME’ ” CLEAN ENERGY Students have been actively involved in this project of active citizenship about environmental sustenaiblity. They have become aware that everyone can contribute to solve the heavy pollution problems of Taranto oil and natural gas prices remain high and volatile across the globe clean energy is an opportunity to address air pollution, public health problems, greenhouse gases, and grid congestion The price of fuel is rising up and traffic congestion has become a compelling problem It is necessary to use green fuel.such as biodisel and bioalcol Biodisel offers competitive low cost prices and is clean energy CONTENTS Renewable energy Biodiesel Biomass Solar power ( fotovoltaic) MAIN OBJECTIVES : •To know the main energry resources with specific attention to the sun •To know the avilability of biomass in our territory •To project and install solar pannels on the roof of our school •To produce biodiesel in our chemicl laboratories BIODIESEL • Biodiesel is a domestic, renewable fuel for diesel engines derived from natural oils like soybean oil, and which meets the specifications of ASTM D 6751. • Biodiesel is commonly produced by the transesterification of the vegetable oil or animal fat feedstock • There are several methods for carrying out this transesterification reaction including the common batch process, supercritical processes, ultrasonic methods, and even microwave methods. • Biodiesel can also be used as a heating fuel in domestic and commercial boilers, sometimes known as bioheat. • Chemically, transesterified biodiesel comprises a mix of mono-alkyl esters of long chain fatty acids • Using alcohols of higher molecular weights ( Methanol)improves the cold flow properties of the resulting ester. . Chemical characteristics of biodisel for heating Advantages • Biodegradable at 95% • Atossic • May be obtained by vegetable oils such as fried oil DLgs 05//02/ 1977 , n° 22. • Its production is ecologic THE PRODUCTION OF BIODIESEL IN OUR CHEMISTRY LABORATORY • Production of biodiesel and chemical analysis of the biofuel FASI DEL NOSTRO ESPERIMENTO PARAMETRI CHIMICO-FISICI Densità in Kg/ m3 olio di mais olio di girasole olio fritto da cucina n. acidità mgKOH/gol. viscisità 20°C in cSt n. iodio gI2/100g olio 916,8 0,45 60 119 918 0,28 59,5 120 915,6 0,28 60 N.D 877,6 0,49 6 103 883,6 0,33 6,5 112 884 0,67 6,5 122 biodiesel da olio di mais biodiesel da olio di girasole biodiesel da olio fritto STUDENTS Amatulli grazia, Chiti Mattia, Blasi Giada, Losavio Manuela ( IVA TCB ) Curia Mariangela, Caramia Antonia, Oliva Marco, Grassi Sara, Caforio Erika, Stendardo Michele ( IIIA OCB ) TEACHERS : Iannotta Ada, Greco Angelo , Di Turo Angela Maria Luisa Cusumano BIBLIOGRAPHY • Internet Web Sites : www.
