Gender
Gender simply means that the noun is either masculine or
feminine.
Some masculine
nouns in Italian are:

Il gatto
Some nouns are feminine.
La famiglia e’ piccola.
La donna scia sulla
montagna.
Nouns that end in –o and in -a



**Most nouns that end in –o are masculine
** Most nouns that end in –a are feminine
Nouns that end in –e are either masculine
or feminine. In this case you cannot tell the
gender which means that you must
MEMORIZE the word.
Things to remember

A. Nouns that end in -ione (like televizione / informazione) are
usually feminine
** B. Nouns that end in a consonant like hamburger and bar are
usually masculine
