Che cos’è Retake Roma?
What is Retake Roma?
Retake Roma è un movimento no profit che mira a ripulire
Roma dal vandalismo di scritte sui muri, adesivi e sporcizia
che devastano la città eterna. Mentre alcuni graffiti, se
effettuati con l’autorizzazione del proprietario del relativo
spazio, possono essere ritenuti vere e proprie forme di arte,
invece degradare edifici privati o spazi pubblici attraverso tag
o disegni è puro vandalismo e come tale punibile legalmente.
Retake Roma organizza eventi di “clean up” nei diversi
quartieri della capitale, in cui gli stessi cittadini
contribuiscono attivamente al decoro dello spazio dove
vivono. Parallelamente promuove convenzioni tra giovani
artisti e soggetti privati (proprietari di esercizi commerciali,
condomini…) per la realizzazione di murales autorizzati.
Retake Roma nasce dalla cooperazione di cittadini americani
ed italiani ed anche per questo è un movimento “bilingue”.
Alle nostre iniziative partecipano regolarmente studenti e
visitatori internazionali che hanno a cuore il patrimonio di
storia e bellezza di questa meravigliosa città .
Il nostro auspicio, anche attraverso una stretta
collaborazione con l’Amministrazione di Roma Capitale, è
quello di diffondere una consapevolezza collettiva tra
cittadini e visitatori della responsabilità di ciascun individuo
di proteggere e migliorare ogni giorno Roma.
Retake Roma is a grassroots, non-profit movement that aims to
eliminate vandalism, in the form of tagging, stickers and litter,
that plagues the city of Rome.
While some "graffiti" could rise to the level of artistic expression
if they were painted with the owner's permission, painting done
without proper authorization from the owner or public authority
is simply illegal vandalism and therefore rightly punishable by
law with both criminal and civil sanctions. Instead, Retake Roma
indeed promotes legitimate artistic expression by encouraging
talented artists to promote their work in public places such as
storefront shutters and other private and public places after
obtaining permission (and perhaps even soliciting a fee!) to do
so.
To accomplish our goals we hold neighborhood cleanups and
mural paintings, or "Retakes", in addition to working to build
awareness and interest among Romans of all ages to take care of
the Eternal City through conventions, social media and
collaborations with similarly oriented organizations, especially
educational institutions.
Our hope is that through the relentless pursuit of these goals we
will be able to create a collective consciousness among citizens
and visitors that we as individuals are also responsible for the
protection, preservation and continual improvement of this
beautiful city.

La risposta giusta è: MOLTISSIMO!

Se lo spazio dove vivi è pieno di scritte e adesivi illegali, NON
ASPETTARE! basta qualche ora di tempo… Qui dentro tutte le
informazioni su come agire sui diversi tipi di materiale.
If the space you live in is plagued by illegal tags and stickers,
DON’T WAIT! It only takes a few hours… in this guide you’ll find
all the information on how to deal with the various kinds of
problems and materials.
Vuoi organizzare un grande clean-up in un parco o in uno
spazio pubblico per cui è necessario l’intervento di AMA? Ci
vorrà un po’ più di tempo, ma Retake Roma può aiutarti
nell’organizzazione.
Sei il proprietario di un negozio e stufo delle scritte sulla
serranda vuoi realizzare un disegno così da trasformarne
l’aspetto, promuovere il negozio e prevenire il vandalismo
con l’aiuto di un artista? Sei un artista interessato a
collaborare con Retake? Eccoci qui!
Want to organize a big clean-up of a park or a public space that
might require authorization and/or help from AMA? In this case,
it takes slightly longer but Retake Roma can help you to organize.
Are you a shop-owner and fed up by the tags on the shutters,
and you want to have a design painted on it to beautify it,
promote your business, and prevent future vandalism with the
help of an artist? Are you an artist willing to collaborate with Retake

Si spalma, muniti di guanti di plastica, una piccola
quantità di solvente per graffiti, reperibile a un
ferramenta
Si lascia agire per qualche minuto e poi si strofina
una spugna di metallo (quella per scrostare le
pentole…) o una spazzola metallica
Infine per non lasciare chiazze, prima che tutto si
asciughi, si rimuove lo sporco con un panno o un
asciugamano
Stone surfaces (marble, travertine..)
1.Buy graffiti remover at a “ferramenta” (hardware store) at
about €8 a can. Brush or sponge it on the graffiti and wait 10
minutes for its solvent to dissolve the color
2. Scrub at it with a wire brush (also available at a
ferramenta for less than €3) or with a wire sponge
3.Before it dries, rub the gunk off with an absorbent rag,
such as a towel or a floor cloth

Superifici verniciate
Painted surfaces
1. In questo caso è ancora più semplice: basta verniciare
con lo stesso colore. Serve solo pennello e vernice (per
esterni, diluibile in acqua).
2. Il colore deve essere della stessa tonalità della superficie
per evitare l’”effetto macchia” (comunque sempre meglio
dei graffiti dei vandali…). Per fare questo si prende un
pezzetto d’intonaco senza danneggiare il muro (per es. in
un angolo o dove si è staccato) e lo si porta in
ferramenta/coloreria.
3. Si dipinge il muro. In un’ora si possono dipingere anche
20 mq!
1. In this case just paint over the surface. You need only a
paint brush and water-based paint for external use.
2. You want to use the very same color. To do that, chip off a
tiny piece (even one square centimeter) from a corner,
without ruining the wall. Bring the piece to a
“coloreria/ferramenta” and they will find the match and mix
the paint so as to have the very same color.
3. Paint over your surface with a brush. In one hour, you can
paint up to 20 square meters!

piccolo coltellino.

Organizzare un “Grande Retake”
Organizing a Big Retake
Retake Roma promuove giornate di clean-up di spazi
pubblici in cui volontari e istituzioni collaborano per il
recupero di parchi o luoghi pubblici. In questo caso può
essere necessario richiedere un’autorizzazione, coinvolgere
PICS Decoro o AMA o cooperative come Il Granellino di
Senapa per ottenere un ottimo risultato, che può
richiedere attrezzature come pulitrici o camion per
rimozione rifiuti, ecc. E’ inoltre utile coinvolgere nel
progetto residenti, comitati e altri soggetti interessati.

Retake Roma promotes clean-ups of public areas where
volunteers and institutions cooperate to recover public
spaces such as parks or the shores of the Tiber. In this case,
you may have to obtain official authorization, involve PICS
Decoro, seek the help of AMA or organizations like Il
Granellino di Senapa to do a proper job, which might require
equipment such as power cleaners and garbage trucks. It is
essential to involve in the project as many stakeholders as
possible: residents, local committees...

Comunicazione e…
Mentre si lavora ad un Retake, spesso le persone
incuriosite si fermano a parlare. Questa è la tua
opportunità di coinvolgere gli altri e diffondere
l’importanza di “Retaking”! Spiega che è semplice,
incoraggiali a seguire la pagina Facebook e a diventare
Retakers loro stessi!
Determinazione!
Alcuni ci ringraziano, altri dicono cose come “è inutile…
domani lo rimbratteranno di nuovo…” Non ti lasciare
fermare da questi disfattisti! Il nostro messaggio è quello
della determinazione. Spesso i muri restano puliti perchè
l’assenza di graffiti allontana automaticamente i writers. Se
non è così, bisogna tornare ad intervenire SUBITO DOPO
nuove scritte (massimo 48 ore). Ri-Retake! I vandali
cessaranno di venire quando si accorgono che c’è qualcuno
che si interessa a quell’area. Dopo massimo tre Ri-Retakes,
non torneranno. Perchè ci sono mura pulita accanto a muri
lerci? Perchè c’è semplicemente qualcuno che li sorveglia,
che se ne occupa. Come a casa tua: quando si sporca,
pulisci. Giusto?
Communication and…
While we work on a Retake, passers-by sometimes stop to
talk. This is our chance to engage others and spread the
word. Tell them about our Facebook page and encourage
them to Speak Up and Clean Up themselves!
Determination!
Some thank us, others say things like “It’s useless…
tomorrow it will just be dirty again.” Don’t let this defeatist
attitude deter you! Our message is one of determination.
This means following up RIGHT AWAY (maximum 48 hours) if
the cleaned up area is retagged. Re-Retake! Vandals will give
up when they see someone is caring for the area. After a
maximum of three Re-Retakes, they won’t come back. Why
are some buildings clean and others not? Someone is ON IT!
Cleaning up is a fact of life, just like inside your house…it
gets dirty again.

condomini privati per migliorare l’aspetto di uno spazio
privato (l’ingresso di un edificio, la serranda di un
negozio…) valorizzando talento e creatività di giovani
artisti.
Retake Roma promotes agreements with businesses and
private owners to improve the aspect of their external
private spaces (the entrance of a building, the shutters of a
shop…) by spotlighting young artists’ talent and creativity.
Questa scala di un condominio devastata dalle scritte è
stata trasformata in una stupenda cascata dal lavoro del
giovane artista Alessandro Sabong. Questa sì che è arte!

art!
