 Italian verbs can have 3 desinences: are, ere and ire. In this form they
represent the italian infinitive : to eat  mangiare
So it is fair to say that in Italy we have 3 kinds of verb. You can see some
below. Those ones are regular verbs.

 When you conjugate a regular verb, remove are, ere or ire at the end of
the word and add the right desinence
Parlare – to speak
Correre – to run
Dormire – to sleep

Parliamo
Corriamo
Dormiamo
Parlate

Arrivare – to arrive
ridere – to laugh
Partire – to leave
Il tempo presente – The present tense
When we use the present tense we talk about:
 To express something happening in the present
Cosa fai? Leggo un libro / What are you doing. I am reading a book
 A fact that is true at present and an action that occurs habitually
Mio padre lavora in banca / My father works in a
Bank
Prendo l’autobus tutte le mattine / I take the bus every morning
 To express the near future, especially in the colloquial language
Oggi studio i verbi italiani / today I will study the italian verbs
Parto domani mattina / I will leave tomorrow morning
Andiamo a Londra sabato prossimo? / Shall we go to London next Saturday?
 The present is used as well to talk about actions that started in the past but are still
on in the present. We can use it in 3 ways:
1. Verb + da + period of time
Vivo in Italia da 5 anni / I have lived in Italy for 5 years
2. è/sono + period of time + che + verbo
È un anno che studio italiano / It is a year that I have studied italian
3. È+ da + period of time + che + verb
È da 10 anni che conosco Luca
WANNA POINT OUT
We use the present widely than English. We use it with the future, especially immediate future. We
use it where in English you would use the present perfect and finally, we use it where in English you
can just use the present progressive.
1. Present Progressive : Piove / It is raining
2. Present Perfect : Suono il basso da 10 anni / I have played the bass for 10 years
3. Future: Domani vado a mare con Maria / Tomorrow I am going to the sea with Mary
