• Gli avverbi di frequenza si usano con un verbo al Present
Simple per esprimere la frequenza con cui si verifica
un’azione.
I always use my mobile
Do you usually play tennis at the weekend?
He is never late for school
We don’t often go to the cinema
Posizione nella frase – con ‘Be’
• Gli avverbi di frequenza occupano una posizione diversa
a seconda della forma e del tipo di verbo.
• Nelle frasi con il verbo ‘Be’, l’avverbio va dopo il verbo:
I 'm usually happy
She’s hardly ever sad
They are sometimes confident
Tom is always late for school
Posizione nella frase – con ‘Have Got’
Nelle frasi con il verbo ‘Have got’, l’avverbio va fra ‘Have’ e ‘Got’ :
He ‘s (=has) always got money
She’s (=has) usually got time for herself
Marco has often got new clothes
Posizione nella frase – con altri verbi
Nelle frasi con gli altri verbi, l’avverbio va davanti al verbo:
We sometimes go to the cinema at the weekend
She usually plays the guitar in the afternoon
Marco and Linda don’t often eat sushi
Posizione nella frase interrogativa
Nelle frasi interrogative, l’avverbio va dopo il soggetto:
 Are you usually cheerful?
Have you always got Science on Fridays?
Do you often watch TV in the evenings?
Focus
• Con gli avverbi di frequenza ‘NEVER’ E ‘HARDLY EVER’ ,
la frase è alla forma affermativa, a differenza da quanto
avviene in italiano.
I never read Chemistry books
Lori hardly ever goes shopping
They are never late for school
Sam hardly ever listens to pop music

La frequenza di un’azione si puo’ esprimere, oltre che con gli
avverbi di frequenza, con altre espressioni di tempo :
