The legend of Domofole
The legend of Domofole QUEEN TEODOLINDA AND THE OROBIE ALPS Why are the Orobie Alps called like this? There are a lot of legends about our area. One of these explains the names of some of our mountains … Once, our area was ruled by one queen. Her name was Queen Teodolinda She was convinced that in the mountains opposite the castle of Domofole , her castle, there could be gold. So she organized an expedition of men, which did not return. She was sure of her theory… but they did not return. After her death it was discovered that there really was gold in those mountains which since then have been called Orobie.‘Oro’ is the Italian for gold. They say that during clear summer nights you can see the ghost of queen Teodolinda looking at those mountains with a melancholic face. It isn’t the only legend of this place but this is one of the most interesting. We love it and the castle.
