• Fax 503-588-6025 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE DATE: Friday, November 20,2009 CONTACT PERSON: Becky George, Recreation Coordinator City of Salem Public Works Department 503-588-6261, [email protected] 14th Annual Riverfront Park Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony The 14[h Annual Riverfront Park Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony is scheduled for Friday, December 4,2009, at 6:30 p.m., at the Riverfront Park Pavilion. This free event, cosponsored by Comcast Cable Communications, Inc., and the City of Salem, features: • Free hot chocolate and cookies for the first 500 people, provided by Roth's Fresh Markets. • Santa Claus will arrive to top the Holiday Tree, assisted by the Salem Fire Department. • Local musicians will perform holiday music. • Free candy canes will be provided to children. • A.c. Gilbert's Discovery Village will coordinate an environmentally friendly ornament-making activity on site from 6-7 p.m. the day of the tree lighting. • City staff will be on hand to assist event attendees in hanging environmentally friendly ornaments on the Holiday Tree. • An "Essay Contest" will be held to select a child to light the Holiday Tree. • Mayor Taylor will serve as emcee for the Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony.
