AWARD NOTICE
Berdie and Irvin Cohen Scholarship
To be eligible for the Berdie and Irvin Cohen Scholarship**, applicants must:

Have completed at least one year of full-time study at the University of Manitoba
or have graduated from the University of Manitoba within the five years
immediately preceding application for this scholarship;
Be admitted to and enroll at Hebrew University in Israel for one year of study for
the 2015/2016 academic session;
Have achieved a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 at The
University of Manitoba.
The number of awards offered and their value will be determined annually by the selection
committee.
Preference in selection is to be given to graduate students.
Applicants will be required to submit an application to the Financial Aid and Awards office. The
applicants will be asked to state their intent to attend Hebrew University in the upcoming fall. The
statement must include an outline of why they wish to do this and their plans upon completion of the
year of study. Upon enrolment at Hebrew University, the successful recipient will be required to
present the Financial Aid and Awards office with official proof of enrolment at the institution to
receive his/her award. Students enrolled in study at Hebrew University at the time of application for
this scholarship may also apply and will be considered eligible. For selection purposes, a high degree
of weight will be placed on the applicant’s degree grade point average at The University of Manitoba.
Upon completion of the year of study, all recipients will be required to submit a report on their
experience. Examples of topics to be included are why you applied for the scholarship, what you
gained from the experience, your preconceptions, post-conceptions, and/or misconceptions, and any
other personal or academic information.
**(Proposed amendments to this award are currently pending University of Manitoba approval. Until
amendments are approved by Senate, this award will continue to be offered as advertised above. Any proposed
changes will become effective the date of Senate approval.)
