Forensics Psychiatry
Forensics Psychiatry The elective will give the student exposure to individuals with mental illness who have become involved in the criminal justice system. Students will participate in the inpatient assessment and treatment of patients on PX3 at Health Sciences Centre, outpatient clinics, as well as have the opportunity to visit correctional facilities with a psychiatrist. Students will attend Forensic Psychiatry educational rounds, Psychiatry Grand Rounds and Cross Program rounds. Learning Objectives: 1. Perform a comprehensive psychiatric assessment. 2. Discuss specific aspects of the assessment of the patient with criminal justice involvement. 3. Participate in the development of management plans for inpatients and outpatients with both acute and chronic mental illness.
