ANNOUNCEMENTS, EVENTS, AND DEADLINES, FOR THE NEXT TWO WEEKS ANNOUNCEMENTS CONTENTS RSVP Now for the 11th Annual Sacramento County District Attorney's Office Diversity Open House and Reception Announcements On October 20th, from 4:30 - 7:00 PM, the Sacramento County DA's Office will open its doors to McGeorge students to explore career opportunities as a prosecutor, mingle with the DA, learn about summer employment opportunities, and sign up to shadow a Deputy DA for the day. Important Assessment and Exam Reminders Here are important reminders regarding preparing and sitting for assessments, midterms and early final exams: Before Assessments/Exams: Know your 4-digit Exam ID Number. Was sent via email on 9/24/15 from the Registrar's Office. After Assessment/Exams: Double-check your Scantron sheet (if a multiple choice exam given) to ensure your answers are correctly bubbled in (especially check Exam ID Number). Upload your ExamSoft essay responses immediately. The Faculty Support Staff is present in the FSO office and can assist with uploading. 10/29/2015 Young Alumni Program | Professional Development Series - How to Stand Out in Your Job Search 10/29/2015 APALSA Presents | EXIGENT 10/30/2015 The Moot Court Society Needs YOU! McGeorge has the honor of hosting the Northern California regional round of the New York National Moot Court Competition on Friday, November 13th and Saturday, November 14th, 2015. We are looking for 30-40 student volunteers to help make this event successful. Volunteers will serve as escorts to the competing teams, bailiffs for each oral argument, help with set up and clean up, and welcome competitors, judges, and lawyers to the event. This is a great way to learn about the appellate process, get involved with the Moot Court Society, and meet local judges and attorneys. FACULTY IN ACTION This week The Docket is SacLEGAL is having its third annual Founders' Award Reception and Twentieth Anniversary Celebration on November 5, 2015, honoring Professor Lawrence Levine in recognition of his contributions to the legal profession and the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community. Our keynote speaker will be Judge Vaughn Walker, former district judge in the United States District Court for the Northern District of California who presided over the Hollingsworth v. Perry trial. Ms. Ravel will provide an update of recent FEC activity as well as a preview of the 2016 federal election season. From March 2011 until her appointment to the Commission, Ms. Ravel served as Chair of the California Fair Political Practices Commission (FPPC). Before joining the FPPC, Ms. Ravel served as Deputy Assistant Attorney General for Torts and Consumer Litigation in the Civil Division of the United States Department of Justice. Ms. Ravel also worked as an attorney in the Santa Clara County Counsel's Office, ultimately serving as the appointed County Counsel from 1998 until 2009. Ms. Ravel has served as an elected Governor on the Board of Governors of the State Bar of California, a member of the Judicial Council of the State of California, and Chair of the Com-mission on Judicial Nominees Evaluation. Ms. Ravel received her B.A. from the University of California, Berkeley and her J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. WRITING COMPETITIONS 11th Annual Sarah Weddington Writing Prize for New Student Scholarship Law Students for Reproductive Justice, in collaboration with the Center for Reproductive Rights and the Center on Reproductive Rights and Justice at Berkeley Law School, is pleased to announce the Call for Submission for the eleventh annual Sarah Weddington Writing Prize for New Student Scholarship in Reproductive Rights. This year, the Sarah Weddington Writing Prize's suggested theme is "Restoring Public Insurance Coverage for Abortion," with a focus on the Hyde Amendment and Harris v. McRae (1980). However, submissions on other topics will also be accepted. For more information, please download the 2015 Call for Submissions: here! The deadline for submission is Monday, January 18, 2016. Winning authors will receive cash prizes: $750 (first place), $500 (second place), or $250 (third place). Additionally, each winning author will receive a copy of the newly released casebook, Melissa Murray and Kristin Luker's Cases on Reproductive Rights and Justice. The first place winner will also have a chance at publication with the NYU Review of Law and Social Change.
