James Young, et al. (2003) 107 Cal.App.4th 106, successfully represented an Albertson’s supermarket. The store brought action against individuals who were using the privately owned walkway in front of the store’s entrances to solicit signatures for initiative petitions. The Court ruled that the store was not the functional equivalent of a traditional public forum, and the defendants did not have a state constitutional right to solicit signatures in front of the store. Served as employment counsel for the California School Boards Association (CSBA) for a number of years, providing advice on employment matters and conducting independent investigations. Represented the Stockton Unified School District as general counsel for 15 years in labor and employment matters as well as a side variety of other legal issues. She has successfully handled difficult employee dismissal matters, served as spokesperson in negotiations with certified and classified unions, litigated in state and federal courts, and provided advice on the Brown Act and Conflict of Interest laws. Defended school districts and other public agencies in general civil litigation and has briefed and argued cases before trial and appellate courts, at both the state and federal levels. Successfully represented clients before the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), Public Employment Relations Board (PERB) and other government agencies.
