The College of Education and Social Work (COESW) and the Professional Education Unit use TK20 assessment software for Unit and Program assessments. TK20 establishes electronic documentation of student outcomes as required by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) standards, our national accreditation organization. It is also used to deliver Early Field Experiences Evaluations (EFEE), and Teacher Internship Performance Ratings (TIPR), and for student teacher applications. TK20 STUDENT ACCOUNTS The COESW will purchase Tk20 accounts for students who are seeking professional educator licensure and who are enrolled in courses that collect Unit and Program assessment data. Tk20 accounts are accessible for 7 years after the purchase date. Students should NOT purchase their own accounts. If students try to access TK20 and receive a message that you do not have an account, students should NOT PURCHASE A TK20 ACCOUNT! Please have them contact the WCU TK20 Office at 610-738-0518 or [email protected] for assistance. It does not apply to TIPR or EFEE field experience binders) From within Tk20, click on “Courses” in the left side panel. You will be directed to the course “Dashboard”. By default, the current semester’s courses will be displayed. However, if you want to view another semester’s courses, on the top right of the screen select the “Term” from the drop down menu. Each course will have a separate tab. All associated assignments for the course will be displayed within the tab. Under each assignment, a colored bar will be displayed. Click on the number beneath a colored section to view the student(s) who have assessed assignments, assessments pending, and who have not submitted an assignment. In the example below, 22 students have assessed assignments and 1 student has an assessment pending. Click on the “Report” button to right of the assignment name to a view detailed report of the assignment assessments. These reports are exportable to an Excel or PDF format. 6 ASSESS STUDENT ASSIGNMENT Click on “Courses” in the left side panel. Click on the course tab that contains the assignment you want to assess. Click on the number located below the “Assessment(s) Pending” portion of the assignment. To assess a student’s submission, click on the name of the student. A split screen will be displayed. o On the left, you can view the student’s information. By default you will be directed to the Submission(s) tab where you can view the student’s submission. Click on the “Details” tab to view the assignment details. o On the right side, you can view the assignment’s assessment tool(s). o Left click and hold on the vertical line in the middle of the screen and drag to the left or right for easier viewing. There are three different types of student submissions: 1. Tk20 Artifact (form) - If the student has submitted a Tk20 artifact, click on the title of the artifact and it will display on the left side of the screen. Faculty cannot annotate directly on artifacts. 2. Text file (rarely used) - If the student has submitted a text file, click on the title of the text and it will display on the left side of the screen. Faculty cannot annotate directly on Tk20 text. 7 3. File upload (most common) - If the student has submitted a file, click on either the “Download” to save to your computer, or you can click on “View and Annotate” to open the document in your internet browser. a. To annotate directly on the document, left click, hold and drag to select the text you want to annotate. The text will turn blue and a comment icon will appear. b. Click on the comment icon and enter your comments. Click “Save” to add your annotated comment. After you have reviewed the student’s submission, click on the name of the assessment tool on the right of the screen to open the rubric. Complete the assessment by selecting the radio button for each criterion. o If available, comments may be left for each criterion underneath the score column of the rubric. 8 o If criterion scores are entered, the “Total Score” and “Total Mean” will automatically be calculated. You must manually enter a “Grade”. When you have completed the assessment, click one of the following: o Save – click to save the assessment and remain on the assessment page. This is helpful if you need to stop in the middle of an assessment and want to save your work. o Complete – click to save the completed assessment and return to the previous page. After you have completed the assessment, choose one of the following: o Submit – Submit the assessment for the student to view. You must click “Submit” for your students to view the completed assessment. o Close – Exit the assessment tool without saving any changes (if you clicked “Save” in the assessment tool previously, these changes will be saved though). 9 GRANT AN EXTENSION TO AN ASSIGNMENT (STUDENT SUBMISSION LOCKED) When a student clicks to SUBMIT coursework, the assignment locks and is in a view-only mode and cannot be edited. To make any changes to the assignment (i.e. remove a file, add an additional file), the student must “recall” the assignment. If the assessor has already clicked on the assessment tool to begin the evaluation, the student will not be able to “recall” their work to make edits. The student will receive an error message when he or she attempts to recall the assignment: “You can only recall an item that has been submitted and not yet assessed.” If the student needs to make changes to a “locked” assignment, faculty must grant an extension. There are two possible scenarios for faculty to grant an extension: 1) Faculty already started evaluation of student submission, but did not yet submit the evaluation. From within Tk20, click on “Courses” on the left side panel. You will be directed to the courses Dashboard. o If the current term’s courses are not displayed, select the “Term” from the drop down menu on the top right. Click on the “Course” tab that contains the assignment. Click on the number located underneath the Assessment(s) pending portion of the assignment you want to assess to view the students who have submitted their assignments. Click on the name of the student you want to provide an extension to. On the right side of the screen, click on the “Extension” tab. Click “Edit Due Date”. Enter a new Due Date/Time and Comments. Click “Update”. The status column for this student should now display “Open for Editing Extended“. 10 2) Faculty already submitted an evaluation of the student’s submission Note: This is a two-step process. First you need to revoke your assessment and then grant extension. From within Tk20, click on “Courses” on the left side panel. You will be directed to the “Dashboard”. o If the current term’s courses are not displayed, select the Term from the drop down menu on the top right. Click on the “Course” tab that contains the assignment. Click on the number located underneath the Assessment(s) pending portion of the assignment you want to assess to view the students who have submitted their assignments. Click on the name of the student you want to provide an extension to. On the top right of the screen, click on the “Revoke” button. Next, click the “Extension” tab located at the top of the page and then click on the “Edit Due Date” button. Enter a new Due Date/Time and Comments. (Note: You must enter a comment). Click “Update”. The status column for this student should now display “Open for Editing Extended“. 11 EARLY FIELD EXPERIENCES EVALUATION (EFEE) Early Field Experiences Evaluations (EFEE) will be sent electronically to Cooperating Teachers via a Field Experience binder in Tk20. Students and Faculty do not complete the EFEE. This evaluation will be sent out to Cooperating Teachers towards the end of the semester unless otherwise requested. Once a Cooperating Teacher has completed an evaluation, students and faculty may view and print it in Tk20. To View and Print Completed EFEE: Once the EFEE has been sent out to cooperating teachers, students and faculty will be able to view and print the completed evaluation. From within Tk20, click on “Field Experience” on the left side panel. If the EFEE has been sent out to cooperating teachers, you will see a list of your students. Click on the name of the student that you would like to view. A split screen will appear. o The left side of the screen will display binder description, due dates, and site/placement information. Students do not submit an EFEE. o On the right side of the screen, you will be able to view the binder’s assessment tool, grant due date extensions and provide additional feedback. To view the EFEE that the cooperating teacher completed, click on the Early Field Experiences Evaluation (EFEE) link underneath the Cooperating Teacher’s Form section on the right side of the page. The completed EFEE will be displayed. To print a copy of the evaluation, click on on the top right of the page. 12 TEACHER INTERNSHIP PERFORMANCE RATING (TIPR) FIELD EXPERIENCE BINDERS For student teaching courses, a Teacher Internship Performance Rating (TIPR) must be completed by students, cooperating teachers and WCU Supervisors. This evaluation is completed twice a semester (First and Second Half). Cooperating Teachers will receive an email from [email protected] that will contain a link to the evaluation. Faculty and Students will access their portion of the TIPR from within Tk20. ACCESS A TIPR FIELD EXPERIENCE BINDER Once the TIPR has been sent out to cooperating teachers, students and faculty will be able to access it in Tk20. Until the TIPR has been sent out, Faculty will not see any student’s TIPR binders. From within Tk20, click on “Field Experience” on the left side panel. If the TIPR has been sent out to cooperating teachers, you will see a list of your students. Click on the name of the student that you would like to view. A split screen will appear. o The left side of the screen will display binder description, due dates, site/placement information and student submissions. o On the right side of the screen, you will be able to view the binder’s assessment tool, grant due date extensions and provide additional feedback. To complete your portion of the TIPR evaluation, click on the name of the TIPR assessment located underneath the Field Experience Forms section on the top right of the screen. Complete the assessment by selecting the radio buttons for each criterion as well as any additional questions. Note that (*) indicates mandatory fields. 13 After you have completed the form, choose one of the following actions: o Save: Save work to return at a later time. This is helpful if you need to stop in the middle of an assessment and want to save your work. o Complete: Mark the assessment as complete and return to the previous screen. When you have finished with the last form, click Submit. UNLOCK STUDENT’S TIPR FIELD EXPERIENCE BINDER When a student clicks to “SUBMIT” the TIPR, and if either the Faculty or Cooperating Teachers has submitted their assessment, the field experience locks and is in a view-only mode and cannot be edited for the student. The student will not be able to “recall” their TIPR binder to make edits. If the student needs to make changes to a “locked” field experience binder, faculty may grant an extension. There are two possible scenarios for faculty to grant an extension: 1) Grant an Extension: Faculty already started the TIPR, but did not click Submit. From within the student’s TIPR binder, click on “Due Date” tab. Click on “Edit Due Date”. Enter a new due date and then click “Update”. 2) Revoke Assessment and Grant an Extension: Faculty completed the assessment and clicked Submit. From within the student’s TIPR binder, click “Revoke” on the top right portion of the screen. Next, click on the “Due Date” tab. Click on “Edit Due Date” Enter a new due date and then click “Update”. 14 VIEW AND PRINT STUDENT TIPR From within the student’s TIPR binder, click the “TIPR” tab on the left side of the page.
