UTB Admission Checklist for First-Time FreshmEn □ 1. Apply for Admission Complete an “Online Undergraduate Admissions Application” at applytexas.org. • Admissions application deadlines can be found online at utb.edu. Note: A $15 late fee will apply to applications submitted after the admission application deadline. □ 2. Academic Credentials Submit one of the following academic credentials to the Office of Admissions and Recruiting: • Official high school transcript (to be sent directly from the high school to the university) or • GED certificate with scores, if applicable □ 3. ACT or SAT Testing All incoming UTB applicants are required to submit either an official ACT or SAT scores to be considered for admissions. The minimum ACT and SAT composite score requirements can be found online on the admissions webpage at utb.edu . □ 4. Residency If you are a Texas state resident, submit two proofs of residency for tuition purposes to the Office of Admissions and Recruiting. All residency documents must include the student’s name and address and be dated 12 months prior to the first class day. Examples of proof of residency include: • Lease agreement • Valid Texas driver’s license or ID card • Texas high school or college transcript • Texas voter registration certificate • Bank statement • Property tax statement or receipt • Utility bill • Employer statement with employment date Note: If you are a naturalized citizen or legal resident, submit a photocopy of your naturalization certificate or permanent resident card. □ 5. Testing (TSI: Texas Success Initiative) All incoming applicants who are not exempt from TSI requirements must take the approved pre-assessment activity and exam. Students who are exempt from testing must provide official documentation to the Office of Testing. For inquires about testing requirements, contact the Office of Testing at 956-882-8875. Once accepted into UTB: □ 6. Immunization Entering students must submit proof that they have received a bacterial meningitis vaccine or booster, within the past 5 years and at least 10 days prior to the start of the semester. Compliance is required before registering for orientation and classes. This requirement applies to all first-time freshmen, transfer and returning students who are younger than 22 years of age. Exemptions: Medical reasons and reasons of conscience such as religious belief. Visit utb.edu for more information. □ 7. Orientation The University of Texas at Brownsville is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to award certificate, associate, bachelor, master and doctoral degrees. Texas Southmost College is a part of The University of Texas at Brownsville and is currently seeking separate accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges. Attending orientation is mandatory for all incoming freshmen. Students are required to complete admission requirements (residency, transcripts, ACT or SAT scores, immunization) and all three sections of the testing requirement before registering for orientation. Registration for orientation can be found online at utb.edu/ orientation. The Orientation fee of $50 will be applied on the student’s account when they have completed the registration process. Advisement and registration for classes is included at orientation. Note: International students, contact the Office of Global Engagement at 956-882-7690.
