High School Voter Rallies For Immediate Release
For Immediate Release High School Voter Rallies BROWNSVILLE, TEXAS – September 23, 2014 – “High School Voter Rallies” promoting the importance of being an engaged citizen by practicing responsible citizenship are being held this week and next week in high schools throughout the city. Each rally targets juniors & seniors in all high schools of Brownsville, and is only one initiative of Kids Voting USA- Brownsville an outreach from the Center for Civic Engagement from UTB. Voter Registration Rallies will be held throughout the next two weeks beginning on September 22, 2014 and extending until October 3, 2014. Students eligible to vote will have the opportunity to register, participate in a mock polling demonstration, familiarize themselves with a sample ballot, and participate in interactive activities about the importance of voting. “We believe that when a person is engaged in their community, via voting or other active roles, they enhance the quality of life of the areas that surround them. Through voting, members of society can improve neighborhoods, increase access to services, and play a role in decision making for the betterment of society,” said Art Lopez, Coordinator for Kids Voting USABrownsville. Through promotional grant funding provided by the Brownsville Community Improvement Corporation (BCIC), Kids Voting USA-Brownsville is also providing a USB bracelet with an uploaded voter guide, voter lookup information, and important election dates to students that register to vote. Students will be encouraged to share the USB resources with their families with the potential for increasing the levels of voter education and voter participation in Brownsville.
