REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS The Social Justice Research Initiative Social Justice Action Award Coastal Carolina University’s Social Justice Research Initiative1 (SJRI) promotes and integrates social justice research, experiential learning, and collaboration with community partners working for social change. The goal of the SJRI is equal access to opportunities and rewards for all people, which will be attained by understanding and addressing the root causes of social injustice and developing innovative solutions for change. There are three core components that comprise the SJRI’s work: education, research, and action. In support of the action component, the SJRI established the Social Justice Action Award to sponsor project-‐based service and community action projects for social change. Projects must focus on issues of social, racial, gender, economic, and environmental justice in South Carolina and the U.S. South. This is a formal Request for Proposals for the SJRI’s 2013 Social Justice Action Award. The SJRI provides support to CCU scholars who collaborate with local non-‐profit organizations or agencies to promote social justice. Two CCU scholars will each be awarded $1500, and funds must be used to support project development, implementation, and/or assessment. Specific activities may include (but are not limited to) grant writing, program evaluation, research design and implementation, workshop facilitation, planning, curriculum development, web development and maintenance, or film/photography/video production. Preference will be given to proposals that include interdisciplinary collaboration and student participation.
