Transfer Guide -­‐ Bachelor of Science in Mass Communications Transfer Process All transfer students seeking a Bachelor of Science in Mass Communications should follow the admission procedures located at www.stcloudstate.edu/transfer to be admitted to St. Cloud State. A student must first be accepted to St. Cloud State, and then may apply to the major after meeting the major’s admission requirements. The Mass Communications Department has programs in advertising, broadcasting (TV and radio), news editorial (print journalism and photojournalism), and public relations. Requirements for Admission to the Mass Communications Major: • 2.50 GPA or higher • Completion of Goal 1 courses and COMM 220 with a “C-­‐“ or higher; completion of COMM 222 with a “C-­‐“ or higher or test-­‐out (see department for test-­‐out option) • Completion of a meeting with a department advisor The following courses transfer from St. Cloud Technical & Community College to St. Cloud State: SCTCC Course SCSU Course CMST 1320 Intro to Communication Studies ENGL 1302 Analytical Writing OR ENGL 2302 Advanced Argument & Research Writing GBEH 1300 Human Relations COMM 1330 Media & Social Issues •

CMST 192 Intro to Communication Studies ENGL 191 Intro to Rhetorical & Analytical Writing HURL 102 Human Relations & Race COMM 220 Intro to Mass Communications It is recommended that students take these courses as a part of the Minnesota Transfer Curriculum (MnTC) or Associate in Arts (AA) degree. If a student completes a goal within the MnTC, the same goal will be completed at St. Cloud State once transferred. Additional Requirements to Consider when Degree Planning: • Completion of 10 Goals (40 credits) in the MnTC (known as the Liberal Education Program at St. Cloud State) • Mass Communication majors are required to have a second major, minor OR one year of a foreign language • A grade of C-­‐ or above is required in all mass communications courses for majors and minors • 40 upper-­‐division credits (300-­‐400 level coursework) required to graduate Please refer to www.transferology.com for up-­‐to-­‐date information on transfer equivalencies.
