In This Issue May 2010 Dear Reader, » Arabian Horse Book Launch at Albadeia Stud Farm » Special Offers Now Available » Magda Mehdawy Traces the Origin and Flavor of Ancient Egyptian Cuisine in Her New Book The Pharaoh's Kitchen » AUC Press Senior Development Editor Randi Danforth Speaks about Working on Preserving Egypt’s Cultural Heritage During this month of May, the AUC Press held a number of memorable outdoor events: its AUC Press Staff day, an annual celebration for the staff and their families at the Downtown Campus; the launch of the spectacular new AUC Press publication The Arabian Horse of Egypt, held at the Albadeia Stud Farm in Giza, hosted by the photographer and a third-generation horse breeder, Nasr Marei; and finally the Annual AUC Press Book, Art, & Music Festival, held this year on the historic al-Mu’izz Street in Islamic Cairo, to celebrate AUC Press authors and new publications. As part of our celebrations of five decades of publishing excellence, we will be hosting next month a special 50th Anniversary celebration, to pay tribute to AUC Press authors and friends of the AUC Press Bookstores. It promises to be a unique event at the AUC Downtown Cultural Center. With summer now around the corner, as many of you are undoubtedly planning your summer holiday, we invite you to browse through our latest catalog or drop by your favorite branch of the AUC Press Bookstores to pick out some of our recent and diverse publications: The Pharaoh’s Kitchen by Magda Mehdawy and Amr Hussein, a delicious collection of recipes to teach you how to cook and eat like the ancient Egyptians during your vacation; The Literary Atlas of Cairo by Samia Mehrez, readings from numerous literary works that trace Cairo’s urban fabric over a period of one hundred years; or for a more political read, The Foreign Politics of Arab States, edited by Bahgat Korany and Ali. E. Hillal Dessouki. During the summer the AUC Press offices will remain open. The next complete AUC Press catalog is due in August. We are looking forward to many wonderful new titles in our fall season, such as Galal Amin’s Egypt in the Era of Hosni Mubarak, The Minarets of Cairo by Doris BehrensAbouseif, and The Essential Naguib Mahfouz, edited by Denys JohnsonDavies. While we continue to commemorate our 50th Anniversary throughout the rest of year, the AUC Press will be hosting a number of events again starting September, including several Book & Author receptions and award presentations.
